De Waal axed

Wednesday, February 15 The Cheetahs have axed flyhalf Willem de Waal.

The flyhalf didn't have a good game against the Bulls last weekend and has paid the price for his performance by being omitted from the matchday squad to face the Sharks this weekend. Meyer Bosman will replace De Waal in the number 10 jersey, while Gaffie du Toit moves onto the bench. Du Toit is yet to start for the Bloem-based outfit since completing his move from the Cape at the end of last year.

Os du Randt also gets his first chance to start. Tiaan Liebenberg will replace the injured Trevor Leota, while Ollie le Roux provides cover on the bench.

Cheetahs:

15 Bevin Fortuin, 14 Giscard Pieters, 13 Ronnie Cooke, 12 Barry Goodes, 11 Sinethemba Zweni, 10 Meyer Bosman, 9 Michael Claassens, 8 Ryno van der Merwe, 7 Juan Smith (captain), 6 Kabamba Floors, 5 Barend Pieterse, 4 Corniel van Zyl, 3 CJ van der Linde, 2 Tiaan Liebenberg, 1 Os du Randt.

Reserves

16 Ollie le Roux, 17 Jannie du Plessis, 18 Frans Viljoen, 19 Gareth Krause, 20 Noel Oelschig, 21 Eddie Fredericks, 22 Gaffie du Toit.

Well i wont call it axed, maybe just a new team, a new tactic with du toit on the bench looks like Rassie is gonna run more this time round, so lets see not a bad idea at all! Me personnaly i (edited)na see Gaffie play wing for this match, the sharks loved the high ball against the chiefes! and to play Gaffie would be a double bonus as he can kick and field the high ball supurbly!! gonna be a blinder of a local derby though SHARK/CHEETAHS doesnt get better than this!!! Great choice. Lets see Bosman make an ass out of himself again!! Why he is a springbok only Jake White knows and why is starting Saturday only Rassie knows. But lets have a nice laught when the Sharks beat the Cheetahs. And who ever thinks the Cheetahs can win, must think twice because The Shark will swim circles round them in the Shark Tank. Go Sharks beat the hell out of them like the Bulls did! Dont let the one hit wonder get away from you. But Sharks remember one gr8 win does'nt make you a hit you still have to play the best Team in the Super 14 - The Bulls. but for now nibble on a Cheetah!! Please!!!

well... he won the game at the curry cup final & he's sure to make a positive improvement over the pasionateless, predictable and un-interesting de waal...

when was the last time that de waal created a try?

Hmm interesting. Im a kiwi, he was good in the currie cup but maybe the super 14 doesnt suit his style of play, or he should play with bosman outside him and keith lowen at 13 seeing he was all black and was a good player for the chiefs.

Is fatigue reason enough for the Boks' poor performance?
