Chris Paterson passed 500 Test points for Scotland in the Calcutta Cup match with England in 2007 and having been picked in the Scotland squad for the Rugby World Cup in France he will play in his third World Cup. In 2004 he became the 19th Scottish player to reach 50 caps in the game against South Africa at Murrayfield and he also became Scotland's second highest points scorer behind Gavin Hastings, surpassing Andy Irvine's total of 273 points. The IRB chose his try against South Africa in 2003 as the try of the year and he also featured in the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Paterson made his international debut for Scotland in the 1999 Rugby World Cup match with Spain, playing at full back.
