George Gregan made his Test debut for Australia in 1994 against Italy and became the first choice scrum half for the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. He was vice captain to John Eales in the World Cup winning team of 1999. In 2001 he captained the Brumbies to their first Super 12 Championship and also captained Australia for the first time against Spain. Between 2003 and 2004, Gregan captained Australia to the World Cup Final against England in Sydney and helped the Brumbies to their second Super 12 Championship. Gregan broke Jason Leonard's record of 119 caps to become the most capped player of all time (120 caps) in 2006 when he came off the bench against England at the Telstra Dome. That year he also set a new Australian captaincy record against South Africa in Sydney, with 56 Tests. He and Stephen Larkham were honoured at Canberra Stadium by having the Eastern Grandstand named after both of them in the final home game and he holds the Super rugby caps record of 136 caps. Away from Gregan's rugby career he has established the 'George Gregan Foundation', which was founded after his son was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2005. The Foundation aims to build children's playgrounds in hospitals around Australia.
