Awards for Luke, Joe and Juan

©TouchlineLuke Watson received further recognition from Western Province as he prepares to bid farewell to the province and begin the next phase of his career with Bath in England.



At an awards dinner held in Cape Town the outgoing captain received both the best forward award as well as the Players' Player of the Year award to go with the Currie Cup Player of the Year award he received from SA Rugby on Monday night.

Joe Pietersen received the award for best backline player while Juan De Jongh was crowned most promising senior player of the year.

The award caps a sensational season for De Jongh with the young centre setting the Currie Cup alight and being rewarded with a place on the Springbok tour to Europe.

UCT players Tim Whitehead (best back) and Martin Muller (best forward) were awarded the under 21 honours while Louis Schreuder (back) and Nizaam Carr (forward) scooped the under 19 awards.

Hamiltons were officially awarded their Super League A trophy as well as the National Club Championship trophy.
