Predicted Super 14 log

Monday, February 11 As part of our Super 14 team previews we've included a predicted log finish for each team ahead of the Super 14.  It is a continued source of debate in the SARugby.com HQ as we try to get our heads around the possible permutations for the upcoming season.

There are so many factors to consider this year with the so-called 'player exodus', the return of the All Blacks, the ELVs, the draw and new coaches - to name just a few.  We've made our best predictions, but we still can't shake the feeling that this year could become a bit of a lottery!

Here are the rankings of the sides according to our predictions.  Click on the team name for a link to the full SARugby.com preview.

As always, we'd like to hear where we've gone wrong, where we've got it right and exactly how you'd rate the sides going into Super 14 2008.

also be interesting to see how the stormers go...have a sneaky feeling rassie could get things right there...they certainly have the playing talent!

By aleric - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I think putting the Highlanders at the bottom is completely wrong! Considering they just beat the Blues 42-21 on Friday in their warm up match.. Doubt they will finish in the bottom half if they play like that.

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
You know, I wish I could say the Cheetahs will end 1st, but I highly doubt that!Honestly, (and everyone will hate me for this),but I think this is going to be another disastirous year for S.A. Super 14 teams.

By RugbyGal - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
You should put R50 in they kitty for the CNA vouchers editors. Very Happy We up to R900 now in the forum!

Sorry should read R600! Embarassed

Sharks,crusaders,bulls,chiefs.........!!!!!!!!!

By greenmachine - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
It seems everyone is underestimating the Bulls potential. At full strength you are looking at Habana, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Fourie Du Preez, Ndungane, Vikus Van heerden, Chilli Boy, PIERRE SPIES!! That's not a bunch of little boys people, that's pure class! And all the players that I haven't mentioned can hold their own too. The people on this site love bashing the Bulls, but they are a bloody good side. Bulls at number one!

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Remember, Matfield not playing anymore! Not even mentioning all the injuries!Your statement is not valid greenmachine!

By Luway - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
As much as it pains me to say it, I do think the Sharks have to start as one of the top 2 favourites...

By no.8 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Blues
Sharks
Bulls
Crusaders
Hurricanes
Waratahs
Force
Stormers
Chiefs
Brumbies
Lions

By bmcutty - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
one prediction: the stormers will finish above the bulls!

By Philly - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
highlanders at last place is a joke.
after winning 42-21 vs the blues.
they've got some exciting young backs and big powerful running forwards.

Sharks 1st.

By sharkybokke - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Blues
Sharks will win but wont top because of incosistancy (michalak/young players)
Bulls
Crusaders
Stormers
Waratahs
Force
Hurricanes
Chiefs
Brumbies
Lions
Reds
Cheetahs
Highlanders

By rugby15 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Remember the waratahs have got That new Zealand coach Deans so i recon they might be in for the money. I hope the cheetahs do well.
waratahs
stormers
crusaders
lions
cheetahs
reds
etc etc

By Teebs - Castle Braai recommendations: 1
Rugby15

Are you on CRACK?

Deans coaches the Crusaders, not the Waratahs. After the S14 he will coach the Wallabies (you know, the Australian national team).

Stormers, Lions, Cheetahs, Reds will all be in the bottom half of the log.

What about teams like the Bulls, Sharks, Blues, Hurricanes, to name but a few.

If you've got no idea whatsoever of what you're talking about, then rather shut the fark up!

By Deanoelsch - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Force have to be higher than that! Surely?

I would go:

Crusaders
Sharks
Blues
Waratahs
Bulls
Hurricanes
Force
Brumbies
Highlanders
Stormers
Chiefs
Cheetahs
Lions
Reds

By Deanoelsch - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Does no one remember how bad the Reds are. Not even sure if Latham is playing for them. Their last game vs the Bulls was about 375 - 3...

By rugby15 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Teebs Thanks for that information
You seem to know everything about rugby

By tanx - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
chiefs seemed to be overlooked. they will be in top half undoubtedly.

By greenmachine - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Matfield WILL be joining the Bulls halfway through the season, so he CAN be taken into account. It's all good. Nobody has given the Bulls a sniff which is good for them in my opinion. The trophy is staying in Pretoria!

By Charlie - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
The Bulls will end the season as the best SA team...

"You people... you have short memories...."

Not even a year after the bulls won the S14, and already you'r writing them off.

By tanx - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
greenmachine

matfield is NOT coming back!

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Greenmachine is living in denial.Shame!

By grotman - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
The bulls are going to be without Matfield, he's not the terminator...

Bakkies will miss the first few games, no gary botha and no roets.

Well that opens up some interesting places for new players. Zane Kirchner looked really good in CC, hope he can adjust. I think the bulls as a team is still contenders for semi's, only worry I have about my bulls is the coach...

Heyneke always had a structured gameplan. And he has shown countless times that he can stir the bulls from slumber, but ludeke couldn't even muster a meow from the cats.

If that spiral starts downward I fear so will our log position.

This is a lot like the Jose Morinho and Avan Grant change at chelsea. Although i'd rate grant a better coach.

Like I said, i'll pray and hope we continu and don't just snuff out.

By bbvb - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
1.Chiefs
2.Crusaders
3.Bulls
4.Sharks

The Chiefs have been the form team (apart from the Crusaders) in NZ rugby the last couple of years and are due to hit straps sometime.

The Crusaders still have so much depth and talent.

Bulls have a lot of Boks and experience in S14/12 semi's the last 3 years, good draw and seem to peak at the right time every year)

Sharks have talent, but lack experience in crunch games (they also lost JS, Butch, Percy and last year's Bok test against the Barbarians had a lot Sharks players on the field and they all self destructed in difficult conditions)

By Bigmac - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Sharks to win

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Let's stir a bit!
Bulls to end bottom of log.................

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Shocked

By jaapvandiekaap - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
No Lie, the Bulls are most likely gonna get smoked by the Stormers, not that i give a rats a$$ about any of them two teams but i think its about high time that they do, law of average, the stormers cant suck all the time and the Bulls cant get the lucky bounce all year as well.

......all rite, bring on the abuse ?????

By Theunis - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Jaapvandiekaap, what you say might have some merrit with the talent in the stormers camp, but I doubt if they will beat aaa the reds...... First they have to adapt to rassie and then they have to start playing as a team.

By rugby15 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
cheetahs
cheetahs
etc etc Go naka and the mana from the freestate!!

By Gdekock - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Lokl- Sharks at number 2? 2nd from bottom maybe. they gonna choke as they usualy do. Crusaders the men. lol. watch the stormers this year- think they'll do better with ol rassie at the helm. Peace dudes... Wink

By Sandman667 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Well done Rugby15!Go Free State!

By ILUVRUGBY - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Shame, all the stormers hopes are put on Rassie and what if the stormers do worse than last year!Is rassie going to be the worst coach ever to coach the stumblers!there is no way he is going to get the stormers ready in one season, not with watson there Im not saying that they wont win any matches but still its going to be a sad S14 for them, they lost the least No. of players to the Boks last year and they could not even make the semis of the CC and that brings me to the Cheetahs this team lost more than half the original players and still it is packed with the most talented players Iv ever seen in a Cheetahs side I was at the game when the they played the freestate sharks Wink and that young Potgieter looks like a player for the future and then there is Duane Vermeulen,Bruso,Pieterse,Floors,Jonker,R Straus and the player of the world cup for me,Juan Smith! What im saying is dont underestimate the Cheetahs this year, they are going to cause a few huge upsets!

By grotman - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Everybody is just talking out of their arses. I think that after 3 games we would be able to tell who addapted the best to this year's conditions

By ILUVRUGBY - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
If saying that rassie cant help the stormers is talking out my a$$ then that is what Im doing but I must say grotman I tend to agree with what you said in some way but do remember how the bulls and crusaders started last year it didnt look good yet they played against each other in the semis!

By jaapvandiekaap - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Its like what Mike Tyson said ''eyeryone has a plan until they het hit''

By Ell-Tee - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
The Stormers shall make a long awaited return in 2008!! Well- here's hoping! Smile

JacquesE, I hope you are right!I hope the Cheetahs put up a big fight this season, but something tells me that is not going to happpen!Sharks are definitely in there though! I think the Bulls are going to disappoint this season. And don't right off the stormers, I think they might have a few tricks up their sleeves?!?!?

By slapper - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Well with 11,4 and 5 left it looks like you're going for Bulls at 4 (fair enough), Cheetahs at 5 (very ballsy) and Stormers at 11 (fair).

By slapper - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Come on lads...should really have the predicted log finished by the time the competition starts

By JacquesE - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Charlier, the Bulls won a super 14 without the All Blacks so it doesn't count really.

By slapper - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Alrighty, so instead of the ballsy pick for the Cheetahs...it's a brave pick at 5 for the perennial underperformers, the Stormers. Based chiefly on the Rassie effect I presume

By stoutgat - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
i think everyone is really underestimating the reds, they have 13 current/ex wallaby players (which team can say they have more international players?) in their team and their youngsters are maturing, i wouldn't be surprised if we see them in the top half of the table

By General_Mc - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
1.Crusaders
2.Blues
3.Sharks
4.Chiefs
5.Bulls
6.Waratahs
7.Hurricanes
8.Force
9.Stormers
10.Brumbies
11.Lions
12.Cheetahs
13.Highlanders
14.Reds

unfortunately i think we are all getting carried away here...the others will be back for vengence and i think the sharks will hold onto a semi place, while the bulls will not be good enough away from home

By fatboy - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
from what i have seen on the weekend..and its too early to predict properly..but the saders, blues... are the teams to beat... followed by the sharks, waratahs an bulls....stormers mid table....the rest a dog fite with the canes and chiefs holding that bunch off...shocker of the tournament will be the brumbies..hope mortlock, rathbone are on there way back soon...

By rugby15 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
wheres the southern spears werent they also supposed to be in the cup.

By kalla - Castle Braai recommendations: 1
Hallo followed what you say may be to late to comment at all but just want to say that most of the talk is fair. Cheetahs won;t be there at all though they do not have the team. There star players is coaching the stormers. New Zealand teams in for vengeance!!! watch out!

PS. Rugby15 you know that the 15 next to rugby stands for the amount of guys in a team? You remarks are soooooo funnnnnyyyyy!! You don't have a clue. The site you are looking for is www.netballsa.com
