3 new caps in England XV

Tuesday, May 22 England coach Brian Ashton has named three new caps among his run-on side for Saturday's first Test against the Springboks in Bloemfontein.

Winger Jason Robinson will captain the side, while Newcastle flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has been included at number 10.

Jason Robinson, David Strettle and Matt Tait are the only survivors from England's final Six Nations game earlier this year.

The biggest surprise is the inclusion of fullback Mike Brown - who made only five appearance for Harlequins last season.

Ashton's counterpart, Jake White - who will only release his team at lunchtime on Wednesday - has far more experience at hand. The England outfit has just 172 caps among the 22 matchday squad members.

They really should have started with Balshaw at fullback. You can't feed a new cap to the hounds. I feel though that Strettle, Robinson and Tait offer some excitement.

On paper we should be able to dominate them up front and thus starve them of quality posession. We should be able to win this one comfortably.

Nag Ou Grote.

You called it right Denzil, "on paper", these guys are motivated and are perhaps looking for a World Cup call, they will give it all they have.

Boks might have something comming, cant wait!

As a fan I would prefer a competitive match as opposed to a walkover because that way we can truly assess the state of the Springboks squad. I know a heavy victory might boost player confidence, but it might fool them into a false sense of security.

ED,

How can jason leonard be the captian when he isnt in the 22?
in fact, i'm pretty sure he retired three, maybe four years ago?

how is it that i am the only one who picked up on this?

Jason Robinson is the captain...

you're the only one who picked up on it because no one really cares too much about the line up and probably didn't finish reading it...I know I didn't
