Did Gary stamp Derick?

Tuesday, October 17

The Cape Argus is reporting a rather bizarre set of events which may have led to Derick Hougaard’s withdrawal from the Currie Cup Final.

Hougaard, the former Springbok flyhalf, had to be taken-off 90 seconds into the second half of the game after sustaining an injury.

In his article, the paper’s Dale Granger writes, “Dramatic video footage of Saturday's Currie Cup final showing Blue Bulls captain Gary Botha putting the boot into flyhalf Derick Hougaard has raised questions over whether Hougaard's injury was inflicted by his own team-mate.”

Before the incident, Hougaard was playing badly. He’d missed a number of easy penalty opportunities and had failed to spark his backline into life.

“Initially it had been thought that Cheetahs prop Jannie du Plessis's tackle on the pivot had inflicted the injury. However, closer inspection of the footage shows Botha charging into a ruck on the Bulls tryline and stamping heavily on Hougaard,” adds Grangers.

“Footage shows that Du Plessis and Kabamba Floors are quick to smother Hougaard, who goes to ground and is turned on his side. While Floors is fighting for the ball Botha arrives at the ruck. The hooker stands over Hougaard, lifts his knee up to his chest, hesitates momentarily, as if taking aim, and brings his boot heavily down on Hougaard's shoulder area.”

“As Botha's boot strikes, the ball has been won by Floors. Tellingly, there is not a Cheetahs player within range of Botha's boot.”

SARugby.com find the claims highly unlikely and Gary Botha has utterly denied the paper's allegations. The Vodacom Blue Bulls are said to be seeking legal advice over the matter.

With thanks to the Cape Argus

Dale that's ridiculous...why wouldn't he just ask for him to be substituted!?

By mexican - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Lets see this footage please (you tube)! I really doubt that some one would do that to his own team mate on purpose!

By jazz - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Wouldnt surprise me as he is a Bulls player...........only joking!

By CorneWheeler - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
For Gods sake......what a pathetic statement Dale.....show us the proof!!!!!

Like Barter says he would only have to ask for him to be taken off...If u ask me he faked it a bit to be taken off before he has to leave at the end of the gam and have hard hats with bull horns thrown at him cause lets face it....HE WAS K@K

doesn't matter who did what, derrick is still the biggest softie i have ever seen and he should be playing bowls and not rugby...woesssssss

By allblacks - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Yes he did cos he he missing some kicks so 2 save him the cup take the weakest link out of the game. Question Question Question

By barter - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
The issue is clearly not whether Gary stood on Derick, but whether or not he did it intentionally.

I've accidently stood on team mates before, and i find it very unlikely that Botha would do it.

By Warrior - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
No man! They could just have subsituted him! Silly.........

By iKickedBobsKnee - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Tappa - maybe red card time for Dale Granger!

By Gron - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Unless there was some kind of feud in the team. Hougaard is the 'Liefling' star of the Blue Bulls. Perhaps it went to his head and tried to 'govern' the team according to his ideals. Who knows....

By luvrugby - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I think its more than possible, this is the bulls we are talking about and gary is no angel!hey what do you expect from people who name them selfs after a disaster that claimed the lives of over 300 000 people, blou tsunami??!!!! Shocked

By Gron - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Or Pote and Meyer didn't want to take off the Liefling, but Gary saw all too well that Hougaard was costing them the game.

By tubes02 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Wouldnt put it passed him though!!I would do the same if someone was catching on k@k!!!!

By tubes02 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
joking....highly unlikely he would have done it on purpose!!!

Yet anther proof request over here...? Someone upload the clip to youtube.

Come on, lets beat Boots&All to it! Someone upload!

By youma - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I was quite upset when I saw him leave because immediately the team was stronger. Inbreeders!

By Gron - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Argh... if only I taped the game then I could have uploaded that piece for you. *sigh* Anyone near the UFS with a tape?

By Luway - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
If he did it, the man should replace Jake as coach cos it was the best thing that could've happened to them!!! Any retard would've taken Derick off at half-time and the coach prob disagreed so Gary took it into his own hands!

To be fair tho, the newspaper rugby writers here in the Cape, Dale, Gavin Rich (especially), etc. do really suck and I'm a WP boy so i wouldn't read to far into it... altho for once Dale, might just be onto something!!

By flashdakota - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
WHAT CRAP!!!
Dale Granger, what a d!ckhead!!!!!

I'll eat my words if there is conclusive proff...

Its complete W@NKER$ like this Granger guy that make me question the capacity of most of our sports writers!!!

He must be fired if there is no proof!!!

Hope Gary takes him to the cleaners.

...I'm sure the Bulls would love a new tackling bag!

By luvrugby - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Now now flash keep your blue panties on,Im sure that granger has all the proof he needs to back his story but I dont agree with the heading of this article, gary botha DID NOT punch derick........ he JUMPED on in the ruck why would anybody risk being sent of for punching your own team mate?ruck him of the field its less risky but hurts more! Cool

The Bulls and Bothas inparticular are considering legal action. Hougaard stated that it was the biggest nonsense he has ever heard. Teamdoctor Tommie Smook said there were no studmarks near his shoulder, and Kaplan said he saw nothing, he only saw Jannie du Plessis hitting Hougaard with an elbow and that is what the penalty was for.

I read in the newspaper that pote human said "wie ook al so iets sal glo is mal,dis skokkend"This coming from a guy that got bulldosed out of the way by the bulls very own heyneke meyer on saterday at the team talks!it must be a bulls thing! Laughing

By chud - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Luvrugby you must be a droom-oog.
Ur comment on the Tsunami thing,is the dumbest thing i've read in years.
This (edited) is typical Cape Town gossip. They always start some (edited) story down there and gets every 1 (edited)ed off. DALE=dick, (edited), (edited), (edited)head, (edited).
The story that (still hasnt been proved) Geo Cronje didnt want to share a room with Davids was also started down there. allegedly by Bolla Conradie

By chud - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
ps Why does the heading ask if Gary punched Hougaardt when nothing is said about a punch

By pikkie - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Such K@k can only be coming out of the cape!!!!

By nicstix - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Mmmm.... interesting

By generaal - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
It could only come from the Cape, who has a team full of a bunch of girly-men

By chud - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Sorry David. Made you change the heading. Im SORRY Laughing

By SunnyG - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Adds a new dimension to "Liefling". " Liefling, Speel jy k@k dan trap ons jou". Off course it's not true! But I must say, damn funny. Wink

By Eddie23 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I've seen pictures and it pretty much shows proff of him stamping on hougaard, but think he was prob goin for floors hand to stop him stealin the ball but floors was to quick and he stomped derick by mistake Mad

By fatboy - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
one can only hope so!!!! Laughing Wink

By Gron - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Wow. Then Floors really is quick! Face it! The Bulls are in disarray!

Why look for legal council this quickly if it's crap.

By bullsfan - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
luvrugby, do you actually believe that the word tsunami was named after the disaster in malaysia and thailand. You idiot!,its a type of a natural disaster like a STORM...ers. Go look in the dictionary,or .... rather ask someone to help you look in one!

By Gron - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Heh, Bullsfan. It's a silly name, because it's the type of names coastal teams should be using. I doubt it very much that a Tsunami would ever reach Pretoria or Bloem. Razz

By Stef - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
That's legal council against the crap coming from the pen of Dale Granger.

By Nostradamus - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
What if the tsunami in the east was named after the bulls? Laughing

By luvrugby - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
No Nostra,if you want to name somthing arter the bulls it has to be somthing that poses no threat at all like the bulls do,maybe a little lamb or somthing like that the only thing the bulls pose a threat to are there own team mates I watch that game again last night and you could see gary stomping on derick with not a Cheetah in site! Laughing you bulls are like animals that kill ther own young!Oh and chud up yours!

By Stef - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Luvrugby,

You should remember to take that little red pills with your breakfast each morning.... Its not good for your health and safety if you forget.

By SunnyG - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Guys, I watched the game again last night and luvrugby, you right. We are mos allowed to speak about what we can clearly see. Gary stomping on Derick with no cheetahs player in sight. So....the quetion is why the stomping? Maybe there was a hand there. If so it just shows you how stupid the bulls are.....more worried about a hand than rucking their own players. Just dumb. Who needs opposition with team-mates like that!!!!!!

By SunnyG - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
AND.....I don't think there are too many bulls' fans that would know what a Tsunami was, if it did not happen in east-asia. So don't sell that BULL-sh!t. They clearly knew what they were doing when they used that name. Why not blue storm, blou ballas or blue something else.

By luvrugby - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
You said it sunnyG! Wink

By Stef - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
SunnyG,

What is wrong? You seem so not sunny!!. Is it because your precious province are the only major union that couldnt play in a final for the last five years? Or perhaps that your archenemy played in all of them!!

In each game there is stamping. At least he didnt hit him with a fist(Krige on Andre Pretorius), or stepped on his ankle after he scored a trie(Slaptjips on Andre Snyman). These things happen, its a contact sport.

By SunnyG - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Ya Stef. I had good lunch and have calmed down quite a bit. You right, there is a lot of stomping (OF OPPOSITION PLAYERS) and that is part of game. I should know, I played the game as well.

As for province, our time will come again, as it has always been Tthat way. Average age of 23, we will be back.

Hey Stef, one thing is for sure, a good rivalry amongst all CC teams is good for SA rugby.

Sunny, is sunny again Very Happy

By Stef - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Couldnt agree more Sunny(on the rivalry thing). Wink

By chud - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Luvrugby also loves lamp!!!
I hate the bulls just like you guys but why is it that the Stormers are gonna play in blue next year???
It must be a bitter pill to swallow. But you guys down there know all about that now dont you Laughing

By luvrugby - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Chud,I have no idea what you just said! IF it is an insult it took you quit some time to to what ever you mean with that! Shocked

By SunnyG - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Chud is a logic upon himself. Something we all have to live with in life and on this site! Wink

By jacquesvdm@mweb.co.za - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
When did WP last win the CC? If memory serves, not this CENTURY! or this MILLENNIUM! Yet they're always the ones with the biggest yaps. Kinda reminds me of a pack of Maltese Poodles. At least Bulls players get injured ON the field unlike WP players falling off their cars' bonnets when they're drunk a la Bobby "how's my hair" Skinstad.
