Cheetahs call on Pieterse

Wednesday, March 17 Barend Pieterse has been called in to the Cheetahs team after David de Villiers injured a shoulder in training.

The former Cheetahs stalwart and Springbok tourist retired from the game in 2008, but announced his return this season and will come in at short notice to sit on the bench against the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday.

Hendro Scholtz comes into the Cheetahs starting line-up to replace the injured Heinrich Brussow.

Naka Drotske has also opted to include Corne Uys on the bench after he recovered from injury in place of Riaan Viljoen.  Viljoen has been suspended from the Cheetahs squad and sent back to the Griquas Vodacom Cup side after breaking team protocol.

Solid Cheetahs side, but I just don't see the Stormers losing. They lack the firepower to breach the Stormers defence.

Well... you probably know now that Viljoen was suspended due to indiscipline. I think it is good that this is happening. Bafana should learn from this... it's the only way to keep the players in line. It is a profession after all.

JeanB, I suspect what happened was that Naka's making a risky call for bringing Hendro back into the team (he hasn't played well for 2 seasons now), but according to Naka his ball running skills will be a better asset at this stage (with the new law interpretations) than an out-n-out fetcher. I suspect Kabamba is there if the experiment fails.

PS: I'd rather have Kabamba at 6 the whole game than Scholtz, but Kabamba does seem to play better from the bench than starting.

Barend obviously covers for 5, 7 and 8.
