Brumbies scrape past Sharks

Saturday, March 13 The Brumbies managed to scrape past the Sharks for a narrow win in Canberra on Saturday.

For the second time in the week there was heartbreak for the Sharks as they fought all the way to death when a Matt Giteau penalty snatched back the lead to hand the home side victory.

The Sharks put in an improved performance with some decent shifts across the board, but a number of small mistakes cost them in the end as their lack of confidence and belief was once again apparent in a narrow loss.

Andy Goode had a flawless kicking display and Ruan Pienaar darted in for a try to help the Sharks into a 16-13 lead at the break.

Ben Alexander grabbed a try in each half to keep the Brumbies scoreboard ticking over as the lead changed hands repeatedly towards the climax of the game.

With nine minutes left Ryan Kankowski was adjudged offside at the back of the lineout and this allowed Giteau to step up and land the deciding kick.

By MasterMatfield - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Bullsrob, that is abit harsh don't you think...? Shocked
I think the Sharks played well, nearly had them on their field..

Looking better Sharks, keep it up!

Go the Bulls!!!

By Gilbert - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
The Sharks are definitely improving...and at least they getting a bonus point each game, which if they start winning their games will make them end much higher on the log.

But i still don't see what all the fuss is about with Kanko, he missed many tackles and made a few knock ons. I really think Plumtree should at least try Alberts at no8...he is being wasted at 7.

By BlueBull83 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Both teams were patehtic so no MM for me the Sharks didn't look much better. Think it's 4 tries now in 5 games, that shows that absolutely nothing is happening on attack. Any good team would have put away the Brumbies today!!

By BullsRob - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I don't dislike the Sharks as much as everyone thinks. I just LOVE winding CrazySharksMan up!!!

I really do wish they were doing better. Unfortunately not. Still I did pick Drew Mitchell as my captain this week and Berrick Barnes as my kicker and Ben alexander as a prop for Super14 fantasy!!

By Rqd2 - Castle Braai recommendations: 1
man, sharks really miss frans steyn...

By KaRmA77 - Castle Braai recommendations: 0

Jannie du Plessis is really not bringing anything to the Sharks at the moment.Send of last week for a blatant trip, this week dropping a crucial pass.I mean he is a well paid "proffesional" right? And he is a doctor so I'm sure he can pick up a rule book and read.Sharks struggled in the scrums which doesnt bode good for the Boks.Starting to look like an end of an era for the Sharks.Hopefully the Bulls can soften up the Highlanders enough this week for the Sharks to have a chance next week.GO BULLS,GO STORMERS.Restore some much needed pride Sad

SHARKS BACKS ARE UTTERLY USELESS!

STEFAN OFFERS NOTHING ON ATTACK! COVER WORK IS AVERAGE!
JACOBS SHOULD RETIRE!!
ODWA VERY AVERAGE BUT HE TRIES!
JP SLACK BY HIS STANDARDS BUT SOME TACKLES MADE....

WHAT A SHAME!

By Aido - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I don't know about that, Jacobs played okay.

By RugbyGal - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
U sure Aido - those passes? And what was Paul Marks doing there?

By RugbyGal - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
And yes next weekend the Sharks gonna have the Highlanders after the MIGHTY STORMERS kept them to nil and the Bulls gonna make it even worse for them this afternoon!

By jakid - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Guns, thats what I mean with an end of an era.Stefan is playing his last season.John Smit will retire after WC2011 and will be rested later this year.Albert van der Berg is gone.Adi and Kankowski is having a huge dip in form.Odwa is more reliable than spectacular.Shark academy is going to have their hands full to fill those gaps.Plus whats up with the front row, they've been struggling the whole season.Pienaar is blowing hot and cold.Cmon Sharkies, this isnt the way we know you!!!! Evil or Very Mad

By jakid - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Aido, some of his passes, most notably the one to Kankowski was shocking

By BullsRob - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Aw... come on. Kanko probably would have spilled it forward in the tackle anyway. He is quick and a real weapon but he does spill a fair bit forward in the tackle area. I think he should be nick-named HOOVES!!

By sharkybokke - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
get rid of that team they r all over the hill - ruan piennaar is crap worse than earl rose in recent times!!! get the young guys in

By cramer - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Pienaar was again, rubbish at 9. He should just bite the bullet and play 10.

Goode actually managed not to get a yellow card.

To be honest, most of the Sharks team have been extremely poor and the players are just not putting up their hands.

Front Row - Rubbish, keeps walking backwards.
Bismark gives away way to many penalties.
Lock combination not good at all.
Backrow are just not working as unit.
9 - 10 combo rubbish
12 - 13 - Jacobs can run a bit the ball never gets to the wings because of rubbish passes. I don't think I have actually seen any of the shark wingers running onto a ball or any space created out wide for them. JP should just move to the bulls or the stormers where he will at least get some ball.
Back 3 - Useless, no counter attacking what so ever.

By mampara - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
oh John Smit...held up for the first 20 then turbo reverse AGAIN

By RugaBuga - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Firstly, I think Adi Jacobs is having the worst season of his life (never been a huge fan of his), so is JP (although that is because the Sharks NEVER swing the ball wide). The Sharks are suffering with a lack of confidence and need to start pushing forward on the front foot. That ball is coming out of the ruck so incredibly slow! C’mon, up the tempo, swing it out quicker and get over the advantage line (the entire Sharks team is built for that type of rugby, look at Kanko, Deysel, Alberts, Daniels). They are top class players; Ruan is brilliant at scrum half and must stay there. What is up with the constant kicking away of the ball?

The Sharks have shown that they have more than enough ability and drive to win as they should’ve beaten Waratahs last week and Brumbies this week. Just get those bloody backliners up to scratch (then Kanko won’t need to try and run every ball up!) and get rid of handling errors! Up that tempo!

P.S. The Sharks scrum did not look that bad!!

By Skaapie - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
This is the Sharks' biggest issue:

They don't know what to do with John Smit, hooker or prop? This causes difficulties for both Bismarck and Jannie. Inconcistencies in selection for the whole front row - practically.

The locks are of no use when the rest of the scrum doesn't work + they are inexperienced.

Deysel is a 7. Alberts is a no. 8 - so, once again, inconcistencies in selection. Causes disruption.

Ruan Pienaar is played here then played there. He hasn't got any confidence because of it and now he's gone from a possible great to a very average "oh I wish things worked out differently" player.

Same was the case for Frans Steyn. Then at centre, wing, fullback & flyhalve.

Jacobs is inside centre the one week and outside centre the next.

WTF!!!???

It's the equivalent of swapping around the opening batsman and the batting lineup with the same set of players for every ODI.. possibly even worse.

Get some combinations and stick with them and use the guys in the correct positions. Do not force them to be on the pitch in a completely different position because in the end it's bad for the player and in the bigger picture, the team.

ill stick by what ive ssaid all along that jannie and bismak can cost u a game and give away far too many penalties, goode was a vast improvement, adi jp and kanko were sh*t again, kanko must b dropped i dnt v the fuss about him he may be beta at wing actually since he cant hit anyrucks properly, hell play burden at 8....but loose trio shoul b boetes 6,deysel 7,alberts 8....also think reece edwards is a (edited) coach cuz when ever he is involved we loose badly Mad

By RugbyGal - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
herbst - maybe when you learn to type properly - and not mxit language - someone will beleive you when you say Ryan are not good. For weeks now he has been chosen as 8th man of the week on this site. He is one of the Sharks best players.

BULLSROB - closet Shark!!

By botsbok - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Mann, this team just needs to regain their focus.... not 1 excuse thats been put up here is reason enough for our performance so far.... Smit had position issues wit the boks - we won the tri nations and B&I tour, same goes for Pienaar, they have the players, they have the skill, they just need to pay attention on the job, they're not looking sharp or hungry enough - simple.

By BullsRob - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
SharkFin - Ha ha ha.... you remember my slip from last year. How are you bud? Your teams struggling this year eh! Your boys spend the off season in KFC???

By jauk - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Heads up Sharks. Sharks will klap Highlanders next week.

By Benjamin - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Smit is past it and this will affect the Boks too if we don't take decisive action to find a new Captain NOW!

By crazysharksman - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Ah man untill we manage to win I really don't have mush to say.. Change is needed.

By hakwa - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
that's the spirit Benjamin - retire him now!

By mikes - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
rugbygal, the only reason Kanko has been no 8 is because Spies has not been playing, look out for the team this week, I'm sure Spies will be there, he was a mountain on Sat, his all round performance is second to none... Kanko is nowhere near his league. Kanko should be tried at flank along with Deysel. and alberts at 8 , now that will be a good loose trio.

By green - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I like the idea of Kanko at openside flank with Deysel at 8. Imagine the ball carries round the scrum, three to four defenders required to bring him down...

By crazysharksman - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Kanko open side? Jeez Shocked

By mampara - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
I'm with you Benjamin...J. Smit is a legend...but reality is he is maybe the 4 or 5 th best hooker in SA and the 8th or 9th best prop we can come up with
