SA Team of the Week - Round 4
Tuesday, March 09
After the horrors of Round 3 the South African sides bounced back in Round 4 with two good wins for the Stormers and the Cheetahs and two narrow losses for the Sharks and Lions in Australia. To make things even sweeter the Bulls managed to stay top of the log despite having the week off.
Let's take a run through the team selected.
Stefan Terblanche put some indifferent performances behind him with a solid game for the Sharks in Sydney and narrowly kept out Hennie Daniller who was also in good form in Bloemfontein.
Lionel Mapoe and
Bryan Habana make up the back three with Sireli Naqelevuki ineligible for a SA Team of the Week.
Springbok centre
Adrian Jacobs showed that he's far more at home at outside centre and slides into the midfield alongside
Meyer Bosman who sunk the Hurricanes with a pin-point display of long-range kicking.
Peter Grant gets the nod ahead of Naas Olivier at flyhalf and he's accompanied by his Stormers halfback partner Dewaldt Duvenage.
In the front row there were some difficult selections to make with
WP Nel, Adriaan Strauss and Wicus Blaauw just edging out the Stormers pairing of Brok Harris and Deon Fourie who would be equally at home in the starting line-up, but have to make do with a spot on the bench this week.
Nico Breedt continued his good form this season with a hard-hitting outing for the Cheetahs and he's in the SA Team of the Week alongside
Andries Bekker in the second row.
The loose trio just about picked themselves with
Schalk Burger, Juan Smith and Ryan Kankowski all putting in stand-out performances. Francois Louw takes the spot on the bench.

That conclusion wise @ S S.
Must say, kankowski plays a very good game at club level, unfortunately he cant cut it at the springbok level so too Tereblanche and Jacobs.
Deon Fourie, amazing performance, he was everywhere at the same time much like Burger. Very impressed with the Stormers. Just need to work on their BMT and they could challenge the Bulls for the title
That conclusion wise @ S S.
He also needs to work on holding on to the ball in a tackle. He does spill a bit to much ball for a loose forward. Not getting down on him cause I think he's good but Spies is so much better.
It's like the difference between Dan Carter and Stephen Donald. Donald is good but the problem is he's compared to a super star. Kanko won't ever be as good as Spies.
Thought Fourie was easily the best SA hooker on the weekend.
I agree BullsRob. Spies is top choice but Kanko is a brilliant backup.
But in 2008 he was S14 player of the year. And looks like he is getting back his form this year.
Regarding his handling. Go and have a look at last years stats. Spies handling errors were WAY more than Ryan's.
Ps. Spies is MUCH better on defence than he used to be, at least as good a Knako.
Gareth - Can we please bracket next to the players name the number of times they have been picked in the SA Team or the Team of the week.
Should be like a sort of Bokometer.
I am sure Pierre and Ryan both have the greatest respect for one another.......afterall they have individual styles of play.....SA rugby should be both proud and grateful to have such awesome no 8's.Lets not divide the issue.
haha some guy wrote that on the spoert24 website.. Found it quite funny..
