Grand Slam tour beckons for Boks

Friday, January 29 The Springboks will play all four of the ‘Home Unions’ in November as part of their end-of-year tour. SARU made the announcement on Friday following confirmation of the fixture programme by the International Rugby Board (IRB).

The Springboks start the tour against Ireland in Dublin on November 6, having accepted an invitation to provide the opposition for hosts Ireland when they officially open the new Aviva Stadium (the redeveloped Lansdowne Road).

The Springboks then play Wales, Scotland and England on the following Saturdays. The tour is planned to end with a fixture against the Barbarians at a venue to be confirmed.

Meanwhile the venue of the Springboks’ season-opening Test against France on June 12 remains undecided. SARU are hoping to meet the local organising committee of the FIFA 2010 World Cup to arrive at a final decision on the availability of the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town.

Springbok end-of-year tour fixtures:

Saturday, November 6, Ireland v South Africa (Aviva Stadium, Dublin)
Saturday, November 13, Wales v South Africa (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff)
Saturday, November 20, Scotland v South Africa (Murrayfield, Edinburgh)
Saturday, November 27, England v South Africa (Twickenham, London)
Saturday, December 4, Barbarians v South Africa (TBC)

Hope we do better than last November.

More likely to be a Grand-slammed Tour than us doing the Grand slamming, based on recent years evidence.

Chances are we will be resting most of our top players for this due to the world cup in 2011 even with it being a year later. I cant see us winning most of the games doing that but perhaps playing some new players can give us a good look at some up and coming stars.

What a (edited) year to organize a grand slam, we will be resting our top players for the WC. Why not organize for 2012?

Its fine we'll still beat 3 out of the 4 unions with a second string team, its just Ireland we have to worry about. Perhaps our top players can be flown down for that game and then come home after that Laughing Could work i guess...and it would do wonders for our confidence for the RWC 2011 if we have just won a grand slam.

Hey the Boks needed a break last year! Dont be so fickle! They had an amaizing year with a low finish all that did was give us a reason to come back and slam them again, expecialy Ireland and England! Dont forget you are all just spectators try competing at their level of physical activity for so many games! They deserved a rest! And nobody took anything away from us! Good Luck for 2010 Springboks!!

Well this will be Peter D's watershed moment to show how good a coach he really is or will he rely on his 3 stooges to help pick the next best squad.

I want to see how good he is with out the likes of John Smit, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Schalc Burger, Juan Smith, Pier Spies, Fourie Dupreez, Jean De Villiers, Jacque Fourie, Bryan Habana and JP Pietersen.

A lot of these players will be retiring and if I was him I would choose at least 15 players under the age of 25 that we can take to the next world cup and built towards the future. But the question is which of the youngsters are good enough to fill their boots.

Will we find more Steyns, Pietersesn's, Habanas etc

As far as I know, the RWC only kicks off with the opening game on 9 Sept 2011, with our first game only on the 11th, thats about 10 months between the EOYT and the World Cup, surely we should be playing our full strength team here and resting them during the Tri Nations instead...

Smacks of SARU filling their coffers. Disgraceful. All about the money.

They know the Boks must rest pre-2011 WC and yet they org a grand-slam tour. Idiots.

it takes alot of guts to take a full strength Boks team on a grand slam tour after the Super 14 and Tri-Nations and just before the RWC

Im sick of hearing these excuses because Irland played Just as many games! Boks were arrogant and they lost it! Obviously they were overplayed but so 1 could argue for Ireland, they played 6nations as well as Lions Tour, infact they may have played more games!
Boks should have squashed them!
