Palu leads John Eales Medal race

Thursday, December 03 Waratahs No 8 Wycliff Palu leads the race for the coveted John Eales Medal after being named the Wallabies’ player of the end-of-year tour.

It is the first time that the voting for the annual John Eales Medal will be announced in three stages, with the first instalment revealed after the Wallabies’ inconsistent tour on Thursday.

Palu has completed a dramatic turnaround this season after he was axed from the Tri-Nations squad earlier this year. The human wrecking ball leads the votes taken among the players with 113 votes, with this year’s John Eales Medal winner Matt Giteau in second place with 102 votes. David Pocock (86), Will Genia (72) and Adam Ashley-Cooper (52) complete the top five.

The next phase of voting to be revealed will include the four Tests against Fiji, England (twice) and Ireland in June. The results of the final phase of voting in the Tri-Nations series will remain secret until the winner is announced in October.
