Dirt Trackers continue losing streak
Tuesday, November 17
A Saracens outfit including 10 South Africans handed the world champion Springboks the third straight defeat of their tour by 24-23 at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday.
Saracens, the unbeaten English Premiership leader, capped a comeback from 18-6 down at halftime with a match-winning drop goal six minutes from the end by former Springboks flyhalf Derick Hougaard.
"We will remember this night for a long time to come," said Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter, one of South Africa's 1995 World Cup winners.
"I know how courageous they had to be to fight back from 18-3 down. It was just a great performance from the team. It doesn't get much better for the club than this."
Having won the British and Irish Lions series and the Tri-Nations this year, South Africa has now lost to Leicester, France and Saracens in the past 10 days.
"We have brought a whole lot of youngsters over here on tour.
Some have shown they are world class players, others have not," said Springboks assistant coach Dick Muir.
Up 6-3 on penalties, Boks center Juan de Jongh beat Saracens winger Noah Cato then stretched out in a tackle by opposite Kameli Ratuvou to dot down. Ruan Pienaar missed the conversion and a penalty but converted a second try by winger Jongi Nokwe, who collected a dropped up-and-under to score between the posts.
Hougaard's second penalty just before the break started a string of 15 consecutive points for Saracens, including a chargedown try for No. 8 Ernst Joubert which unnerved the Boks, and another try when Saracens streamrolled the Boks scrum and midfielder Bradley Barritt busted through three defenders.
Hougaard converted for 18-18 but then squandered two dropped goal attempts and a penalty shot.
The Springboks struck back when fullback Earl Rose and winger Odwa Ndungane combined to set up Nokwe's second try.
But Hougaard's third penalty in the 69th minute cut the deficit to two, and his drop goal five minutes later secured the upset victory before more than 46,000 spectators.
"A lot of the stuff we did in the first half we didn't do in the second and a few decisions went against us," Muir said. "We put a lot of pressure on in the first half and did the opposite in the second."
South Africa finishes off its tour against Italy and Ireland.

So embarrased right now....
Shows English leagues are not half as bad as people think, they just got serious issues with there National Team....
poor poor bok display!
Ruaan is a scrumhalf and has been so terribly manages he now has now idea what hes doing!
This is a tour from hell !!!
KiwiJoe, no one finds your trolling amusing. I never miss a Bok match. Never. But guess what? I didn't watch the Saracens v SA XV game because that's how much it meant to me. Like stated above it was basically a Currie Cup match.
Oh and btw, it's a joke that Richie McCaw is nominated for player of the year.
if it were up to me, i would pull the plugg on this godforsaken tour, let the owens enjoy the festive season with sunblock and BBQ smoke, screw the tour, we will fight back in the S14 and give the NH team an a$$ whipping on our fields once again>
Ruan Pienaar needs to grow a pair or get lost. Whats his kicking ratio, 19%? I hope a Japanese club picks him up or something, I can't him.
The 1st grade guys have an excuse, they have played grueling test matches all year and won most of them. These guys however have done nothing.
In a way this is the Boks way of Blooding some new players at international level but tests are another step up and it may be too little too late in terms of 2011. PDV knows he has a very successful team in his current starting 15 and he also knows now that he has practically no room to move in terms of that starting 15. While it may hurt the Boks in the short term I would recommend next year PDV does the following:-
1. Rest Matfield and Botha as much as possible over the next two years. This not only helps them stay fresh but also will allow him to blood replacements, particularly Bekker who needs more game time.
2. Unearth some good scrummagers;
3. Give some loosies a go at test level. SA have got plenty of talent in that area but most guys only have one or two test starts.
The Saracens have about 6 South African players that should be in the second string team.
Anyway, I stated that before this game that this SA XV side would lose. You have thin scrumhalf with no confidence playing flyhalf.
And btw, Back-in-Black... you're on All Black fan. Don't tell us how to win World Cups. Idiot.
3-0
He wont rest anyone in 2010. He will do exactly what Jake White did (I assume Graham Henry will too) by blooding new talent in the 2011 TN.
Potgieter, Deysel, Johnson, Hargreaves, De Jongh, Rose, Pienaar, VanDemerve, Hougaard, Strauss, Maku, Bosman are all no older than 25 and most of them have little or no experience of European conditions!
They were up against in comparison a very experienced Sarcens team.
Please can someone explain why everyone hailed the Lions team a miracle for beating under strength currie cup teams after playing together for 4 weeks e.g. The Sharks but a second string bok team gets hammered in the press for losing by a point after having only a couple of weeks together???
(edited) me off! The Lions got as much time as any international team when, have a pool of 4 countries to pick from, with soo much experience available and then they come within a few moments of losing to the Cheetahs, Province, Royal Ba(edited)eng and then of all teams the Southern Kings!!!
Where is the rationale for kicking this bok team in the teeth??? The Aussies lost 5 out of 6 games trying young players and have unravalled some diamonds. The Boks have too...Johnson and De Jongh look up to it. Potgietor, Deysel, Bekker, Van Der Merwe have picked up vital experience and Olivier and co will have shaken off any rustiness
This is primarily a rookie Currie Cup team that has had a couple weeks to train together against a team that has had 8 games (and who are currently undefeated) with 6 or so of OUR South African players in their team.
Come on Polynesians your jealousy over the Springboks is coming through. Go walk around lake tanawakipiki in Hamilton.
stop making excuses sunshine you lost.
Jealousy?? Seriously whats there to be jealous about you guys are losing to club teams lol.
I'll go for a walk and you can finish eating your zebra testicals
Whats there to be Jealous about? Well, World Champions, Super 14 Champions, Lions tour, Freedom Cup, Mandela plate, Tri-nations... (we could put Bledisloe in there too)
PdV knows these club matches mean far less than real tests, so its clever for him to blood new players at this time.
Whats the time in New Zealand, like 4PM? shouldn't you still be at work? or do you live off the Government like all loyal islander citizens do?
RSA 28 NZL 19
RSA 31 NZL 19
RSA 32 NZL 29
Ruan Pienaar is this teams biggest problem, he has no clue what he is doing. When he touches the ball he will more than likely knock on, kick out on the full or throw an awful girl pass. Had Morne been playing Barrit wouldn't have gotten through to score and he would have converted the tries.
Now wait before you say (OMG he's racist) I say B..llS...t!!! I am a black SOUTH AFRICA. And as far as us educated ones know....... APARTHEID ended blady a decade ago!!!
When the hell is all this crap gonna end and we can play our sports like a blady normal country MAN!!!
Its embarrassing for us to watch and even worse to look at our white collegues in the face they next day thinking "Sorry you guys had to watch that token side last nite"
Get a life!!! For some of us we are United under 1 Flag and 1 Nation, why must you screw it up, just because you feel it's fair :-S
Play a game of Rugby first then get back to us you muppets!!!!
Oh I forgot
SA Politicians 2 - SA Nation 0.
regarding the match, so what. midweek tests are just that. plus the other team was basically a south african team anyway. it was like a currie cup match...
they gambled and lost....
like dick said..some have shown they can take the step up and other have not....
at present..bekker, johnson, de jongh and do i dare say it earl rose have played well in this dirt tracker team..the rest need to work alittle harder...hienke at 3 was a complete waste of time, to the player and the team...feel for the player..
both 9's showned they lack the step up, just yet
front row..well ongoing joke...
locks...hmmm, danie nowhere, hargeaves tried
potgieter , deysel, and johnson never played as a unit..
chilli, gunthro and jannie, nearly destroyed there careers with that perfomance against leicster..
reubenhimer, 2nd rate player was made to look nowhere ..shame
pienaar, never controlled game...
Yeah, you welcome then into your country with open arms... that is until they get old and worn out like Joe Rockockoko - you then toss him out.
Secondly... We all know that the loose forwards in the dirt tracker side haven't played together before, AND we also know that there are guys, like Duane Vermuelen and Willem Alberts for example, who should be there but aren't...
Thirdly... This was an experimental side from the get go, with the exception of 12 and 15, with Frans Steyn and JDV gone, the real bok side pretty much picks itself...
I have to agree with you thou, no excuse for the Dirt Trackers to lose to club teams. I cant ever imagine the All Blacks losing any Midweek game.
I hope this is not the last of the mid week games in the future, i rather hope that we prepare beter in the future.
Imagine if Hougaard was on song, we could have lost this game by 10+.
I know it lookes like im laughing but im actually crying..
Rose, Deysel, De Jongh, Bekker and Hargreaves were good.
Pienaar didn't have a bad game he just isn't a good goal kicker, his tactical kicking was excellent and his distribution was very good.
They should have let Rose kick.
We must take this "B" side and make them play more friendlies next year. And we should really get a scrum docter.
The boys didnt play that bad. Remember they are still young and lacks experience at this level.
The ref did suck bigtime in the second half.

So get a life. It's about blooding future talent and yes, we have lost, but at least we have discovered who can take the step up. Never mind the reffing (did anyone listen to Naas after the game!).
Muir and Gold get the credit all year for the Boks... but Gold has always been an average forwards coach (both with Boks and Stormers) whilst Muir has shown his capabilities with the mid-week team! Not to mention how unimaginative our backs were against France. Methinks PDV is getting a raw deal... Smit said he's a great coach in his book. I think he'd know better than us!
I am dissapointed, but really, these games don't count for S**T, who cares if we loose. They are experiments too assist with the process of rooting out the rubbish players and finding the gems, and that is exactly what we have been able to do.

I can’t believe that people are still give Ruan stick he was by far one of the better players on the field, yes his kicking at the sticks was not got but his ball destitution was amazing and tactical kick right up there.
But were are all the big supporters of this front row, there were people on here the whole weeks saying these guys should be starting for the Boks and they got pushed back the whole night, just goes to show that maybe we will just need to stick with the beast and John……
Johnsten is the player of the tour so far. I am a big kanko fan but if he doesn’t pull finger soon this guy is going to be a sure in.
Lastly will the supporters of Olivier now admit that he does not have what it takes to play for the Boks I mean other than one tackle he did nothing else Barrit made him look like a silly

KiwiJoe, no one finds your trolling amusing. I didn't even watch the game, that's how much I cared for it. It was basically (like stated above) a Currie Cup fixture.
All I have to do is say 3-0.
Kiwijoe youre a chop with nothing more to do than stir (edited) over the net safely behind your pc. We know were playing (edited) and we dont mind if youre critical but 456 say something worthwhile. Youre like a little kid.
Some of us enjoy rugby for rugby and have admiration and respect for other teams, and we know that the All blacks and Aussies when out of form are never down for long and will always be a formidable force. In fact I think the Aussies are going to be the big threat in the 2011 world cup, not writing off the All blacks. But boet youre downright stupid when it comes to making comments about rugby. Do you really think that the Springboks are useless? I think not.
Samoankiwi you fall under the same category as kiwijoe.
As for you Kiwijimmy89 maybee you should join the South African parliament seeing that your only comment is to pull out the racism card.
Uncle Bulle I find my trolling HILARIOUS! as well as many SA fans who dont take their footy too seriously.Stop biting and i'll get bored and start picking on Graham Henry on my kiwi blogs!! You see my world ranking for ya! I apologise cause "Rest of SA" would probably be ranked above Greenland! Hahahahaha
i think some guys here have a lack of bed action, if it were up to me i would pull the plugg on the tour and let the boys enjoy a festive season of sunblock and BBQ smoke, and worry about S14 and givving the NH boys a hidding on SH fields next year
These are but a few players:
Home: Jano Vermaak, Tiaan Liebenberg, Willem de Waal, Willem Alberts, Doppies la Grange, Jaco Pretorius, Gerhard van den Heever, Marius Delport, Peter Grant, Joe Pietersen, Rory Kockott, Waylon Murray, Stefan Terblanche, WP Nel, Lionel Mapoe, JL Potgieter, Sarel Pretorius.
Overseas: Frans Steyn, Jean de Villiers, Luke Watson, Butch James, Joe van Niekerk, BJ Botha, Wikus van Heerden, Michael Claassens, Marius Joubert, Ross Skeate, Schalk Brits, Brad Barritt, Brent Russell.
And i have to say, based on current form, Rose deserves the full back berth more than Kirchner based on their performances on tour!
No matter how many games we win after this, the History Books will always show that the Springboks lost to Leincster and Saracens. This puts SHAME to the Springbok jearsey.
WTF is going on with the BOKs????????????????????????????????
What's with this "3-0" business LMAO!! is this your claim to fame???? LOL Sheesh, win 1 series win them all is your motto no doubt. Last but not least, your insinuations and racist taunts about "islanders" is laughable at best. NZ rugby MAKES these islanders, they come here to benefit from our long and proud rugby traditions and natural skill for the game we all love. Being as though we're an Island ourselves I don't see the fuss.
Put it this way, if the islanders you claim are that good, why do the respected nations lose game after game to the "power house nations" and why do they always struggle to get past pool play in RWCs? Face it, they are as much apart of us as we are them. Without our training and support they wouldn't have got anywhere near as far if they had stuck it out in their own nations. Rainman could have figured that one out.......
Like we've all come to suspect, no doubt you'll talk about everything but rugby like you always do and you'll fall back on to history (most of it ancient) to satisfy your dwindling ego. You're the typical bottle neck (empty from the neck up) who never has anything constructive or good to say so you just turn to insults.
nd to kiwijoe hope u having a blast...keep it up young chap
bringbackrucking... why would you want to bring back rucking?... I'm all for it but you do know how much damage that would allow Bakkies Botha to inflict on your softer Australasian players?
I love it, the Australasians have been dead silent for the passed couple of months, as soon as the "b" boks lose a couple of games that aren't even counted as tests, you try and put the boot in.
And to the rest of SA.Yes it`s worrying to loose like this but we must remember that this has been an very long year and that we have done so well.Who has played more rugby than SA players this year??Lions Tour,S14,Tri Nations,CC.Fact:we thrashed the AB`s 3-0.
NZ doesnt look themselves on this tour either. And even the men from Oz.And I wont be suprised if France upset the AB`s as well.Lucky for them the French rarely have two good games in a row.
And Bluebok, you're right... many of us were unbearable around that time... its good to have a bit of needle from our Australasian counterparts!
Its like an analogy of pushing a broken down car - its difficult in the beginning but once its going its momentum carries it well for a while but is bound to go off track or reach an uphill at some stage!
ie the next coach to follow from Jake White whether it was you me or PDV was always going to have it easy. All his work was done for him.
PDV has been fine as a coach...he does his best and cares about his players and job and his heart is in the right place but although he has an impressive CV I dont think he has what it takes to take us to new levels.
There is so much (edited) in Springbok rugby that its hard for even 'black' coaches having to impress the political fatcats who worry about quota systems rather than choosing teams based on skill. The beauty is that we have plenty of 'black' players who can make the team on merit but sadly we still have political crap resulting in players like Rose being in the team. Every dog will have his good day so rose will impress on occasion.
To continue with the analogy, the car not only broke down but perhaps the wheels are coming off???
Solution: play the Bulls team and we will continue to win all our matches - they are the best team in the world (altho im a stormer) and its there great coaching that shines through for South Africa and wins us first team game...take away the bulls players and you get what we have now....3 losses in a row and an average coach able to do nothing about it!
With
Imagine the Bok team without - Bakkies, Spies, Victor, Habana, Du Preez and Steyn? We would definitely be in a very bad situation. I know its hard for you to admit it cause you're a crazy sharks man but players like Kanko, Muller and Pienaar just wont have the same affect. Of course there are other players from other unions that are integral parts of the team but the Bulls players just happen to be in the most important positions on the field. Basically what needs to be done is that we need to find depth in these positions ASAP!
Once again this has nothing to do with provincialism. Jake white proved it time and time again, he identified his best players and stuck to them wether they were playing for a rampaging bulls side of a battling wp side.
would you like me to explain the meaning of the words forum and maybe the word partake??
Go and wine somewhere else you sore loser! I said nothing about one province being better than the other its just that the Bulls are a great unit at the moment and very well drilled and understand each other and their roles in the team perhaps more than
any rugby team has ever...
BUT then again I am wasting time explaining things to you because you probably dont understand!
This was extracted from The Times Stephen Jones 'Rolling Maul' on line report :
Once we get a supposed national characteristic into our heads, a national trait or a so-called national strength, there is no shifting it. It becomes a consuming dogma.
You know the sort of thing: West Indies produce great fast bowlers. The French are rude and shocking drivers. The Scots are tight as ducks' backsides. Wales produces wonderful sports journalists. Aussie and Kiwi referees are scandalously bad. Germans hog the towels on holiday. Well, most of these notions are just typecasting. Most.
And South Africa produces great props. What a load of drivel. I admit it, I have subscribed to this hoary old rubbish. It is not true. It never was. South Africa is the home of Big Blokes Going Backwards. It is the elephant in the room of every South African rugby fan. Except that the elephant is docile and not half as dangerous as it looks. As with Bok props, if you say "Boo!" it will go away.
Take this tour. Leicester's reserve pack and Martin Castrogiovanni butchered the Boks at Welford Road. In Toulouse last Saturday, the Boks were beasted up front, embarrassed and shattered. Last night at Wembley, the reserve Sarries front row annihilated South Africa at scrum-time.
It was ever thus. The first time I saw South Africa live was at dear old Rodney Parade and I could hardly watch the first few scrums as the tiny Newport props went down against those giants. Why worry? I can even recall that Newport won nine balls against the head. Yes, nine.
At their very best, the Bok scrum is a holding operation. But in the last 20 years they have grossly over-rated a torrent of props, they have promoted others prematurely on grounds of race and they have still managed to be called a scrummaging nation. Why?
The trick that they play on themselves is typified by the deification of Os du Randt, who was never remotely a great player or scrummager. A few years ago at Twickenham he was humiliated by the England front row. You felt sad for him. "Big bloke, but didn't know what to do with it," a scrum expert told me that night.
A nation of scrummagers? More like a nation of Backwards Joggers. Scroll down to see our list of the week of Bok weaklings.

10. Wian du Preez - came on as a replacement for South Africa against Sarries yesterday at Wembley, hammered by Richard Skuse then ritually slaughtered by Carlos Nieto in the final quarter. Ran backwards.
9. B J Botha - when last I was in South Africa, one of the home prop-slobberers told me to watch out for BJ, he was something special. Indeed he was. He stayed hidden for 80 minutes.
8. C J van der Linde - shocking. He was beasted to kingdom come in the Wasps-Leinster Heineken match at Twickenham last season. Cue disappearance of CJ and enter unopposed scrums.
7. Lawrence Sephaka - still staggering about in France last time we heard. Was usually carted off at half-time in big games after being murdered in the scrum. Token-selection suspicions ahoy.
6. Gurthro Steenkamp - nice bloke, but he couldn't scrummage your Auntie. Totally obliterated by Martin Castrogiovanni of Leicester at Welford Road last week. Would struggle for a beer-only contract in a local leagues outfit.
5. Ollie le Roux - great jolly barrel of a man. Enjoyed the odd gallop prior to a ten-minute break for wheezing and getting his breath back, but yet another Bok prop who was simply not at the races as a scrummager.

One question have you ever been to NZ or are all your opinions just based on what you've heard? If you haven't been you should come and have a look and then you'll realise that nz is a really muilti cultural country but you'll also find that there are actually alot more nz born islanders than you think. This is much more a B team than the one Snor chose. What does these midweek teams achieve. Nothing!. The guys are poorly trained and they don't have the will and the guts to win. They know that their chances to be in the first team is basically zero, due to the lack of interest shown by Snorre Viljee.
I must also say i can't believe he was nominated for best player. It's a joke. He didn't do much this year.
what do you say to an ozzie bloke walking down the road with his missus?
