Traille at 15 for France

Monday, November 09 France coach Marc Lievremont has selected his team to take on the world champion Springboks in Toulouse on Friday night.

Powerhouse centre Yann David has been selected at inside centre with Damien Traille at fullback ahead of regular starter Maxime Medard.

Francois Trinh-Duc gets the nod to start at flyhalf.  There is no regular flyhalf replacement selected on the bench - indicating that Traille will step in should anything happen to Trinh-Duc.

It's the selection of 105kg David alongside Maxime Mermoz in the France midfield, however, that will dominate the buzz ahead of the game with the lightweight Adrian Jacobs expected to line up at inside centre for the Boks.

Cedric Heymans and Vincent Clerc make up one of the best wing combinations in world rugby while the loose trio of Louis Picamoles, Imanol Harinordoquy and new captain Thierry Dusautoir also looks strong on paper.

Nicola Mas, William Servat and Fabien Barcella are the three front rankers selected to expose any weakness in the Springbok front line.

Not suprised to see Traille there. He played flyhalf when we were thumped at home last time. Should be an interesting game.
Our biggest obstacle to victory will be the scrum.

I have a feeling that aside from the second-string Bok-BL test and the loss to Aus(it seemed because of complacency), this may be our toughest test of the year.

Dunno much about their scrummie or their inside centre but the rest of the team look a daunting prospect. In Toulouse, this match is going to be tough and an absolute humdinger. I fear it may end up being a bridge too far for our boys due to exhaustion but I'm gonna make a biased call and say Boks by less than 5.

What happpened to the times when other countries were worried about the size of our players and not the other way around.

Under PDV we have lost the ability to gain ground without having the ball in hand. That's how strong our deffence was under Jake White.

We should be able to win this game easily, our team has WAY more experienced, is much better on paper and has beaten the best the world has to offer this year already and easily outclasses thr french side man for man. No matter how good the Boks perform or what they achieve the folks on this site seem to rate them as underdogs, regardless of the opposition. Ok, maybe I'm getting a little carried away, but seriously, this is the best Bok side ever, we should walk this game. I am however, a little worried about Adrian Jacobs getting floored in this game by their centre...but they are gonna need more than a mountain of a centre running through the turnstile that is Adrian Jacobs to win the game. Boks by 12

we are gonna miss frans steyn's big boot in this one!

the french knows adi jacobs is the weak-link ..they also know that our scrumming is inconsistant ..the french are not idiots, remember they gave the all-blacks 2 very tough games.. however i still back the boks anyday.. but i must agree scrumfan, we gonna miss frans steyn..bigtime.. Crying or Very sad

I don't know these guys. There is about two guys I have heard of. How good is this French side compare to the side in the 2007 world cup????

It would be great to have a provile page of these players. I have no idea about the size and form of these players.

But If it is true that they are playing an 105 kg center against jacobs I think our midfield will have their work cut out for them.

Morne Steyn is not the biggest or most confrontational flyhalf, to have Jacobs at 12 I think the French will be punching holes through our midfield.

It would have been a different story if we had Jean De Villiers with Jacque Furie.

It think South Africa can counter the french with some rush defence, not allowing their backline any space.

It depends if the Bokke are going to turn up for this game-apart from Adi and Kirchner the team should beat the frogs! Also, I would rather like to see Johnson start with Kanko on the bench.
We are going to miss Spies!!!!And Mapoe should be here rather than both Nokwe and Odwa!!!Thats my 2 cents worth!!! Very Happy Very Happy

jacobs will be steamrollered and there is no way he is getting past mermoz with his quick feet, mermoz is their version of de jongh and is a livewire in the midfield!!

i think our back row will need jean deysel's bulk as their loosies and in fact entire scrum is pretty huge.....we could do with a fetcher though so keep brussow and have kankowski to show us the form of last year!

maxime medard is overrated but vincent clerc is very good, can't see him getting past habana though Very Happy

Jacobs was one of the best performers for the Boks last season - I'm not saying he's better than Wynand but his defence isn't that bad and guys keep going on about his size, he's bigger than Giteau. Gitz's skill is amazing but what I'm saying is that size is not everything...Don't know too much about the French 12 but look at Bahanahan (English wing, 6'7) he looked like a gorilla on ice skates. Don't get too caught up and lose sight of the bigger picture

I also think it is time to return to the way they played the AB's
at the start of the TN-Use Morne(to kick) and Habana & JP to chase!!! Keep them on the backfoot-no way can you go forward if you continually go backwards!!!! Very Happy

I am dying to see the team! I hope no idiotic selections!!!

sasuperman:

sarugby has lost faith in jacobs this year...he has never been a solid defender and hasn't shoewd much in attack this year!!!!

whereas wynand olivier was by far the centre of the super 14 this year and will link better with J Fourie!!

i think swanepoel and waylon murray will keep jacobs on the bench this super 14 and sadly i think his bok days are numbered Very Happy

Haha, the French... I think they're still (edited)ed at us about the 95 WC semi final in the mud...

Anyway, it's going to be a tough game, the All Blacks complimented the French on their physicality (i hate that word...) so you know they're no pushover...

Its goin to be a awesome game... No walkover! Poisonous backline!!! Lots of Flair throughout the French side

By mampara - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Very good french side...Kirchner is going to come under close examination...aside from that, I look forward to Adi shoving all you coments down your throats AGAIN.

By dum_out - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Yann david is going to moleste Adi Jacobs!!!

By BullsRob - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
This French side looks devastating. Going to be a huge clash up front. Smit will get dominated but the bench will save the day!!

By barter - Castle Braai recommendations: 0
Wish Chabal was playing...that would be an almost guaranteed 15 points to the Boks! He's hopeless
