Mauger leads Leicester against Boks

Thursday, November 05 All Black Aaron Mauger will captain Leicester Tigers for the historic match against the Springboks at Welford Road on Friday night.

Mauger will operate at flyhalf, where he led Leicester to victory in the East Midlands derby last weekend. Another New Zealander, Scott Hamilton, has been selected at fullback, while newly signed Wallaby wing Lote Tuqiri has been included on the bench.

Coach Richard Cockerill has named a fairly green but potentially electrifying centre pairing in youngsters Andy Forsyth and Manu Tuilagi.

The Tigers received a timely double boost with England coach Martin Johnson releasing lock Ben Kay and hooker George Chuter from the national side.

Kay will start in the second row alongside youngster Calum Green, who made his debut against Northampton last weekend, while Chuter will be employed off the bench.

Leicester Tigers: 15 Scott Hamilton, 14 Lucas Amorosino, 13 Andy Forsyth, 12 Manu Tuilagi, 11 Johne Murphy, 10 Aaron Mauger (captain), 9 Ben Youngs, 8 Brett Deacon, 7 Ben Pienaar, 6 Geoff Parling, 5 Ben Kay, 4 Calum Green, 3 Martin Castrogiovanni, 2 Mefin Davies, 1 Marcos Ayerza
Replacements:16 George Chuter, 17 Dan Cole, 18 Tom Armes, 19 Dan Hemingway, 20 James Grindal, 21 Greig Tonks, 22 Lote Tuqiri

will put in a good showing in the first half. Once boks begin to gel (lets hope), we should take it easily. bokke by about 15-20points!!

Hmmm...... Leicester are a brilliant side and this isn't exactly a strong Bok team. They play together week in and week out. Our boys, although internationals of sorts, still need to play as a unit.

One thing this game should prove is our depth..... or lack there of. I don't know how good these guys will be. I'm particularly worried about Earl at full back. Scott Hamilton and Aaron Mauger will target him with the high ball and they have Loti Tiqiri on the bench!

Think it's going to be to close to call.

Rob, they're also playing without half their usual team, so I don't expect them to 'gel' that well either.

LOL - i reckon boks by 8-12 as well - not a runover at all, + rosie and the back three defense -but our forwards are pretty good......
