Cheetahs bolster squad

Thursday, November 05 The Vodacom Cheetahs announced the signing of Sharks hooker Skipper Badenhorst on Wednesday and the loan signing of Monty Dumond also from the Sharks.

The fiesty Oudtshoorn born hooker will join Naka Drotske's squad as a direct replacement for Leinster-bound Richardt Strauss and serve as deputy to Currie Cup captain Adriaan Strauss.

Dumond has been loaned to the Cheetahs from the Sharks as the flyhalf looks for game time with Ruan Pienaar and Juan Martin Hernandez ahead of him in the queue for the number 10 jersey in Durban.  Free State U21 flanker Johan Wessels has gone the other way on loan, but will return to the province at the end of the Super 14.

Likewise, Badenhorst was keen to move on after falling behind Bismarck du Plessis and Craig Burden in the hooking pecking order.

Griquas hooker Rayno Barnes and utility forward Ashley Johnson (now considered more of a number eight) will provide the competition for the number two jersey.

Ashley always was a number 8, who played 2 for one season. I doubt he'll be competing for no2, as he's the first choice no8.

I don't mind loosing Badenhorst, but Dumond showed his worth this currie cup I thought he played very well, and I do think we need backup at Flyhalf.

I am so happy for the cheetahs. All the hard work that has been put in for the last...8years maybe has started paying off. The cheetahs are becoming a union that players actually want to play for as opposed to using it as a stepping stone to play for some "real unions."

These guys have been a force to be reckoned with in the currie cup, and with griquas coming along nicely, maybe they wont be such a push over. It comes down to money at the end and bloem has had a few test matches in recent years to fill their coffers a bit too. I think that many thanks need to be given to Juan Smith and Rassie Erusmas for all their hard work and commitment... The resigning of a guy like brussow is a very good sign for things to come.

These are good signings by Cheetahs and I am happy for the players if they can get some more game time here, Dumond especially he really showed his worth in the CC.

Richard Straus is no loss-when he came on in the CC final he gave away 2 crucial penalies resulting in 6 points AND was in the sin bin!Bad temper and poor judgment!!Good riddens I say!!!
