Bulls second-row Victor Matfield is hoping to make it eight wins out of eight on home soil this season when his side faces the Rebels on Friday.

Their form at Loftus Versfeld has been superb but it's their away performances that have ultimately cost them a place in the Super Rugby play-offs.

And it's unsurprising that trend has irked Matfield.

"We are definitely not happy with ourselves and we really just need to keep working," revealed the captain ahead of their season finale in Pretoria.

"Currie Cup is the next focus now. I think we'll have a good team for the Currie Cup.

"Last year we were close (in Super Rugby). We were actually very good finishing second on the log."

The upcoming Currie Cup competition is set to be a springboard for the Bulls going into Super Rugby 2015 and with fewer Springboks than in recent years, Frans Ludeke's side are one of the favourites for the title.

"You don't want to get too far ahead of yourself and that is why we want to close this season off first," said the head coach about the upcoming Rebels clash.

"Hopefully we can go into the Currie Cup with a good pre-season and an almost new squad.

"The blend is more there now than in the last two Currie Cups, in terms of playing experience and talented youngsters."

He added on the Melbourne outfit: "If you look at them, they keep the ball in hand and they kick the least of all teams.

"They've got an effective pack of forwards with a good lineout and a good scrum. It will be a battle for quality possession."
