Kaino, Nonu set for bench duty
Blues boss Sir John Kirwan revealed that All Blacks duo Jerome Kaino and Ma'a Nonu will be on the bench against the Cheetahs in Auckland on Saturday.
Kirwan said his best side will start the match against the Bloemfontein-based outfit. Nonu is ready to play but not to start and it's the same for Kaino who has been training in Auckland while the Blues were on tour in South Africa.
"One's been in Japan and the other hasn't played and to run out at this level - it was a bit like [Kevin Mealamu] and [Tony Woodcock] a few weeks ago, you just can't expect them to start," Kirwan told New Zealand's 3News.
He said the plan is for both players to come on with half an hour to go.
Nonu is relaxed about the timing of his return to the franchise he rejected in 2013.
Kaino's return is not controversial and after two years in Japan he is keen to deliver similar performances which cemented his place in the All Blacks' World Cup winning side in 2011.
"Everyone's expecting me to be that player that left after the World Cup and I want to strive to put out as good a performance as I can," said Kaino.
