Auelua blow for Brumbies

Dynamic Brumbies number eight Fotu Auelua has been ruled out for 10-12 weeks with a knee injury in pre-season.

Auelua ruptured his medial ligament after being hit at a ruck during the Brumbies pre-season fixture against an ACT XV last week.

The 30-year-old has only recently recovered from shoulder surgery, which forced him out of the series against the British and Irish Lions last year.

"It was just one of those things," said Auelua.

"It could have happened at any time of the season so I guess I'm just lucky that I will still have an opportunity to compete in 2014.

"The team here are very tight-knit and I know I can count on them to get me through this tough patch."

The Brumbies remain well stocked in the back-row despite Auelua's absence, with Jarrad Butler arriving from the Reds to work with Ita Vaea, David Pocock and Ben Mowen and with Scott Fardy able to cover.
