Boks to face World XV in CT?
The Springboks could face a World XV in a match at the Cape Town Stadium later this year.
According to a report on Die Burger's website, the game is due to be played on June 7.
The City of Cape Town's Mayoral committee member for tourism, events and marketing, Grant Pascoe, revealed that they are negotiating with the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) about the possibility of hosting the match.
"They (SARU and WPRFU) have the Test at Newlands against Australia (September 27) and then they're looking at another game (in Cape Town) against a World XV at Cape Town Stadium," he said.
Pascoe added that all the rulings have not been finalised yet.
Cape Town's executive director of tourism, events and marketing, Anton Groenewald, said they are waiting on a political decision to be made regarding the matter after the proposal was brought to the attention of Western Cape premier Helen Zille and Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille.
WPRFU president Thelo Wakefield said his organisation was in favour of the idea.
"SARU asked us if we'd like to come on board and we agreed," he explained.
"It's a top-notch match coming here and it's good for the fans."
Wakefield said the fact that it won't be an official Test and the possibility of luring more than 48 000 fans to Cape Town Stadium make it appealing.
"The discussions around it are between the City Council and SARU," he added.
"WP will act in an advisory capacity."
