Butch linked with Perpignan

According to reports in the French press, Perpignan are hoping to recruit former Springbok fly-half Butch James as a medical joker.

The Catalans are desperately seeking a fly-half after a spate of injuries and international calls ups left them without a  specialist pivot.

Midi Olympique have named 35-year-old James, along with fellow South African Gary van Aswegen from Western Province, amongst the possible targets.

2007 World Cup -winner James, who recently retired from playing after a final season with the Sharks, is current involved in coaching Varsity Shield side UKZN Impi alongside former All Blacks and Lions coach John Mitchell.

James is experienced in European rugby having played 49 match for Bath between 2007 and 2011.
