Bok duo set to return for Sharks
Springbok duo Willem Alberts and Tendai Mtawarira have both been declared fit for Saturday's Currie Cup Final against Western Province in Cape Town, but doubts remain about Jannie du Plessis and Jean Deysel.
Loose forward Alberts is yet to feature for the Durban-based side since his return from national duty, where he sustained a neck injury in the Rugby Championship.
Prop Mtawarira was a late withdrawal from the semi-final win over the Free State Cheetahs after picking up a minor knock in the warm-up.
Fellow front-rower Du Plessis missed the 33-22 victory due to a hand injury, and along with Deysel, who sustained a hamstring injury in the same game, faces crucial fitness tests on Tuesday.
Props Dale Chadwick and Wiehahn Herbst proved suitable replacements for Du Plessis and Mtawarira in the last game.
"It was difficult for Chadwick and Herbst on the weekend," said Sharks back-line coach Sean Everitt on Monday.
"They came in late after the withdrawal of the two Springbok props, but they really performed admirably.
"Dale was very good at scrum-time and he worked hard around the field. It was exciting for them, and if either or both have to start this weekend, we wouldn't be worried about playing them."
Hooker Kyle Cooper was also declared fit after sustaining a shoulder injury against the Cheetahs.
However, the Sharks' coaches will face an anxious few hours as they wait to learn the fate of Bok hooker Bismarck du Plessis, who appeared before an SA Rugby Union judicial committee earlier after being cited for stamping on an opponent in weekend game.
