Bismarck must be very physical

Having named Bismarck du Plessis in his starting side to face the All Blacks, Heyneke Meyer has sent out a strong message.

He has urged the player - red-carded in the Eden Park Test - to maintain the physical edge to his game as long as it's within the confines of the law.

"The only thing I want from Bismarck is to be Bismarck. That's why he's been selected," said Meyer.

"I expect Bismarck to be very, very physical."

A physical edge is required against the top-ranked All Blacks, who are a particularly ferocious side at the points of contact and collisions.

"He's a great leader and usually gets the team up if he plays well," added Meyer.

"What's happened (disciplinary indiscretions) is in the past."

While Adriaan Strauss, who will be on the bench, is more than competent come scrum-time, Du Plessis possess an even more powerful presence.

The Springbok scrum has proved a strong-point in the 2013 Rugby Championship and the consensus is that the set-piece is an area though which South Africa can gain ascendancy over New Zealand.
