All Blacks bring in Afeaki
Chiefs and North Harbour prop Ben Afeaki is on his way to South Africa to join the All Blacks as injury cover for Owen Franks.
Franks will be assessed today after succumbing to a groin injury half way through Saturday's 33-15 win over Argentina in La Plata.
"Owen is pretty sore," All Blacks coach Steve Hansen told Fairfax Media.
"We'll have to make a decision what we're going to do with him, but everyone else is fine."
Afeaki, who made his Test debut against France in June, is considered New Zealand's next best tighthead prop and, if Franks is ruled out, will start Saturday's Test against the Springboks in Johannesburg on the bench with Charlie Faumuina - who helped halt a back-pedalling scrum against the Pumas when he came on as a second half replacement - wearing the number three jersey.
New Zealand are also set to be boosted by the return of captain Richie McCaw who trained with the team in Argentina and is almost fully recovered from his knee injury.
"If he's confident I'm confident," Hansen said of McCaw's rapid recovery from a medial ligament knee injury.
"He's a good judge of his own body. Watching him train all week he got better and better. He'll be fine."
