Burger to play for Barbarians
The Barbarians have confirmed that Springbok back-rower Schalk Burger will be in their squad to take on Fiji at Twickenham in November.
The 30-year-old has been sidelined through injury and illness since the start of 2012, but it appears he is set to make his fourth appearance for the Baabaas against the Pacific islanders.
Burger is working hard to return to full fitness. He underwent surgery to remove a cyst pressing against his spinal cord, in March of this year, but there were complications when he contracted bacterial meningitis.
Since then, Burger has been through some tough times, which saw him spend a total of six weeks in hospital and another eight weeks indoors.
He will be joined by Springbok captain Jean de Villiers in a team that will be coached by All Blacks boss Steve Hansen.
The Barbarians confirmed the news in a series of tweets on Wednesday.
