Latham supports Mogg
Former Australia full-back Chris Latham has called on Ewen McKenzie to keep Brumbies back Jesse Mogg in the 15 jersey.
Mogg endured a difficult first start in Test rugby last weekend in the 47-29 defeat against New Zealand in Sydney.
Currently on the back of an excellent Super Rugby season with the Brumbies, Mogg has impressed with his searing pace and big boot - two factors that in Latham's mind could make him a long-term Test full-back.
"I rate Jesse Mogg quite highly. He's got a lot of potential there. You need the backing and the confidence of the coach (to perform)," said Latham to the Canberra Times.
"His first Test, if anything, he was just probably guilty of trying too hard. In that position of fullback, and I've been there myself, if you make mistakes they are generally exposed and seen a lot more.
"I think it would be a bit harsh to not pick him this week."
Latham did admit that shifting cross-code convert Israel Folau into the 15 jersey was tempting, but conceded that his defensive abilities and positional work were not quite up to scratch in his first season.
"It's a tough choice. You'd be a silly man to question his ability to catch a high ball and kick," added Latham.
"My hat goes off to him with his talent and what he's shown thus far with the limited experience he has."
