The Stormers are trying to sign Lions utility back Lionel Mapoe for next year's Super Rugby tournament.

That is the word from Mapoe's agent, James Adams, who confirmed to Die Burger's website that Western Province are "one of the teams" eager to attain Mapoe's services.

Mapoe represented the Bulls in this year's Super Rugby tournament following a loan agreement with the Lions. The 25-year-old also played for the Cheetahs from 2008 to 2010 and was included in the Springbok squad on last year's end-of-year tour to Europe but did not play in any of the Tests.

WP and Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is keen to bolster his back-line stocks following the departure of Bryan Habana and Joe Pietersen to Toulon and Biarritz respectively.

Wing Gerhard van den Heever is also set to leave Cape Town for  Munster after this year's Currie Cup competition.

Mapoe, 25, played Super Rugby for the Bulls this year on a loan agreement with the Lions.
