Speight in line for Wallaby call
Australia coach Ewen McKenzie says that Brumbies winger Henry Speight is very much on his radar, with a Test call-up beckoning.
Speight was not part of the Wallabies training squad named by McKenzie ahead of the Rugby Championship despite being in red-hot form for the Brumbies.
The Fijian-born flyer missed out on selection for the Lions tour as he had not yet met the eligibility requirements to turn out for Australia. It was initially thought that Speight would be available for the entire Rugby Championship, but it now appears that a stint in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship with Waikato last year has delayed his qualification for Australia.
While the 25-year-old’s status may not be 100% clear, it appears that as soon as he is available for Australia he will be selected.
"I'm well aware of his form. He's had an outstanding year," McKenzie told AAP.
"If he's only available for one Rugby Championship game that makes it complicated (to join the current squad). But there's a five game tour at the end of the year and he's eligible around that time.
"I'm waiting to know (the date) and I'll make decisions accordingly."
