Grant to come back firing
Peter Grant is determined to win back the Stormers number ten jersey after missing most of the Super Rugby season due to injury.
The fly-half suffered ankle ligament damage against the Chiefs in early March, in what was just the third match of the Stormers’ season, and didn’t feature again.
The 28-year-old will now head to Japan to continue his stint with the Kobelco Steelers but looking ahead to next year he’s determined to fight his way back into the Stormers starting XV.
"It wasn't nice to sit on the sidelines this year and I am keen to make up for it next year. Western Province have always treated me well and I did the same. I think I was a good investment for them over the years," the 28-year-old is quoted as saying by Die Burger.
With Elton Jantjies’ future not yet decided, Grant could be facing off against youngster Gary van Aswegen for the berth, a situation that the former Springbok believes will be mutually beneficial.
"It's important to have depth at fly-half,” he explained. “Gary is starting to mature nicely. By the time I return (from Japan) he will hopefully have gained more experience and be highly rated as a fly-half."
