Former All Black lock Tom Donnelly will turn out in the blue of Otago in the ITM Cup after two seasons with Canterbury.

Donnelly has found opportunities hard to come by with the Crusaders, with Sam Whitelock and Luke Romano forming a formidable partnership in the second row. While the pair are likely to miss much of the competition due to international commitments, Donnelly has decided a switch back to Dunedin is the best move.

"Tom is staying in New Zealand and he wants to play for Otago if he stays here,'' Otago coach Tony Brown told the Otago Daily Times.

''It's good to have him back here as after losing three locks from last year that has been an area of concern for us during the club season.''

Otago will once again be lead by Paul Grant but will be without former stars Tamati Ellison (Japan), Adam Thomson (Japan) and Glenn Dickson (England) who have all moved on.

All Black Ben Smith remains committed to the region but is unlikely to feature due to his probable participation in the Rugby Championship.

New faces in the Otago squad include prop Craig Millar, flanker Willis Scott, half-back Josh Renton, centre Teihorangi Walden and outside backs Kieran Moffat and Fa'asiu Fuatai.

Otago: Paul Grant (captain), Lee Allan, Sam Anderson-Heather, Hugh Blake, Peter Breen, Michael Collins, Liam Coltman, Tom Donnelly, Tony Ensor, Gareth Evans, Matt Faddes, Tom Franklin, Fa'asiu Fuatai, TJ Ioane, Scott Manson, Craig Millar, Keiran Moffat, Charlie O'Connell, Hayden Parker, Buxton Popoali'i, Josh Renton, Willis Scott, Ben Smith, Jayden Spence, Fumiaki Tanaka, Ezra Taylor, Tama Tuirirangi, Tei Walden.
