The Chiefs have signed utility back Tom Marshall on a two-year contract from New Zealand conference rivals the Crusaders.

The 1.83m, 96kg back will move to Hamilton at the conclusion of his ITM Cup campaign with Tasman.

Marshall has played 40 matches for the Crusaders, 26 for the Tasman ITM Cup side and was part of the winning 2010 Junior World Champion New Zealand U20 side.

"I had the pleasure of working with Tom in 2010.  He is a quality man and a quality player and we are rapt to welcome him to the Chiefs family," Chiefs coach Dave Rennie told their website.

23-year-old Marshall added: "I was coached by Dave in the NZ U20 side so I was keen to reunite with him.  I am keen to push for more starting opportunities in my preferred position so the change was appealing, but I have really enjoyed my time at the Crusaders."
