The Springboks shrugged off a poor start to the second-half to brush aside Italy with a 44-10 victory in their first match of the international season at Kings Park, in Durban, on Saturday.

"I think it's a great start to the season. I'm very happy with the win," said Bok coach Heyneke Meyer after the win

"We have to obviously stay humble, but there's a lot of positives to now build on from here."

Captain and centre Jean de Villiers added: "We made it difficult for ourselves because we were playing all the rugby in our own half."

"The yellow card also made it difficult, so it was a character test for us and we came thorough nicely."
