Olivier, who returned to the Bulls earlier this year, after a stint in Japan, has requested an early release from his contract, and it is likely that he has already played his last game for the Pretoria-based franchise.

The 37-Test veteran was in the Bulls' starting line-up during the 18-16 win over the Sharks in Durban last weekend but was left out of the matchday 22 for this weekend's clash against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Bulls high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg confirmed that a request for an early release had been received.

“We knew there was interest from overseas, and we did receive the request, which was granted, but that’s all I know at the moment,” he told Sport24.

Olivier has penned a one-year deal while Du Plessis has signed until 2016, making it unlikely for him to return to South Africa and possible to qualify for France if he so sees fit.

Du Plessis has struggled to establish himself in the Stormers set-up since returning to Cape Town after a spell in Australia with the Melbourne Rebels and NRL outfit the Sydney Roosters.

He represented the Stormers last year and Western Province during their successful Currie Cup campaign but is yet to make an appearance for the Cape Town-based franchise in this year's Super Rugby competition.
