Bjorn Basson has been issued with an off-field red card for a tackle made on Pat Lambie during the Bulls' win over the Sharks.

Bulls winger Bjorn Basson has been issued with an off-field red card for a tackle made on Patrick Lambie during his side's 18-16 win over the Sharks.

Basson was given a yellow card for a spear tackle by referee Jonathan Kaplan on the advice of one of his assistant but on review it was deemed that the tackle "met the red card threshold for foul play."

"Basson is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (j) Dangerous Tackling - Lifting Tackling," read a SANZAR statement. "The citing is to be considered in the first instance by Sanzar Duty Judicial Officer Jannie Lubbe SC," it continued.

A date for Basson's hearing has not yet been set.

Bulls lock Flip van der Merwe was given an off-field yellow card for use of the boot on Keegan Daniel.

"Flip van der Merwe of the Bulls has been issued with an off-field yellow card for contravening Law 10.4 (b) Stamping or Trampling during a Super Rugby match at the weekend."

"Van der Merwe made contact with Sharks player Keegan Daniel at a maul with his feet. The incident occurred in the 21st minute of the match. An off-field yellow card may be issued by the Sanzar citing commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.

"In this case the referee for the match did not act upon the incident. Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed an off-field yellow card was appropriate."

In Cape Town, Radike Samo too was given an off-field yellow for "contravening Law 10.4 (j) Dangerous Tackling - Lifting Tackling" when he tackled Stormers number nine Louis Schreuder.
