Leinster's South African prop Heinke van der Merwe will leave the Irish province to further his career at Stade Français from next season.

Stade Français have confirmed via a press statement on their official website that they have signed Van der Merwe on a two-year contract.

Van der Merwe, who joined Leinster from the Golden Lions in 2010, has played in four Tests for the Springboks.

His last appearance for his country came as a replacement in their 16-15 victory over England at Twickenham last November.

The 27-year-old has been sharing the number one jersey with Cian Healy at Leinster. He came off the bench in the 2012 Heineken Cup final and scored the penultimate try in the 42-14 win over Ulster.
