French club Bayonne have confirmed the recruitment of seven new players, including former Crusaders and Blues fly-half Stephen Brett.

27-year-old Brett arrives from Japanese club Toyota Verblitz. He will be joined in the Basque country by goal-kicking Argentine wing Martin Bustos-Moyano from French rivals Montpellier.

Bayonne have also signed 25-year-old scrum-half Mathieu Belie from Racing-Metro and 27-year-old prop JC Janse van Rensburg from the Lions in South Africa.

Three players arrive from relegated Agen: South African prop Gert Muller, loose forward Jean Monribot and Fijian wing Saïmoni Vaka.

Bayonne, who currently lie tenth in the Top 14 standings, have also announced the release of nine players, including veteran fly-half Benjamin Boyet and former Bulls pivot Jacques-Louis Potgieter.

Former France international Cédric Heymans is returning to Toulouse, where he will coach the youth side.

Prop Renaud Boyoud, South African lock Rob Linde, loose forward François Carrillo as well as centres Lionel Mazars and Thibault Lacroix will not have their contracts extended.

In other transfer news from France, Clermont have confirmed the signings of scrum-half Thierry Lacrampe and fly-half Mike Delany.

Les Juanards have captured New Zealander Delany - who has already played two games for the league leaders - from Japanese side Panasonic Wild Knights on an initial two-year deal while Lacrampe joins the club on a three-year contract from Castres.

Clermont sporting director Jean-Marc Lhermet said the recruitment shows Clermont are aiming for stability and consistency.

"For several seasons we have built our workforce on a stable and solid frame,"
Lhermet told

"Our recruitment policy for next season is following this guideline and will be a sign of continuity with the arrival of two players, Mike Delany and Thierry Lacrampe "

Former player Xavier Sadourny, 36, has also been confirmed as a replacement for Alex King as head of the Clermont training centre and will also link up with the first team as part of the coaching staff.
