Cheetahs lock Martin Muller will leave Bloemfontein for Wales after signing a deal to play for Welsh club, the Dragons.

Apart from the Cheetahs, Muller has also represented the Stormers in the Super Rugby tournament and has represented South Africa at various of age-group levels, including the SA Schools and SA U21 teams.

“We’ve been tracking him for a year and have had some great references from current and past Springboks coaches,” said head coach Darren Edwards, who spent a portion of his childhood in Transvaal and speaks Afrikaans.

“He is in the prime of his career and is ready to break through, so hopefully we’ve got him at the right time.

“He could play for Wales if he chooses to do so and the Springboks aren’t happy about this signing, because a lot of their second rows have moved on.

“South Africans have become very influential in the RaboDirect Pro12 because of the nature of their game and their physicality.

“And people will see the obvious potential in Martin when he comes over,” added Edwards
