According to reports, Reds director of coaching Ewen McKenzie is to move on at the end of the season to pursue an international level coaching dream.

This decision, reported in The Australian, adds weight to speculation McKenzie is in line for the Wallabies job, with current head coach Robbie Deans contracted until the end of the year.

"It's appropriate to be up front about it now because the (contracting) decisions on the 2014 season are being made now," McKenzie said.

"Me making my decision allows 50 other people in this organisation to make their decisions. I'd love to have the opportunity to coach the Wallabies but I don't control the timing of the ARU. Things at this level are all about timing. But this way I create my own timing."

During the recent off-season the Reds brought in Richard Graham, who joined from the Western Force as head coach. That subsequently means the Queensland franchise possess a ready-made replacement for the outgoing McKenzie.

News of McKenzie's departure at the end of the season will not only interest those in the southern hemisphere as Six Nations outfits may also be keeping tabs on his situation.
