Despite missing large parts of the season through injury, Springboks and Cheetahs flanker Heinrich Brüssow has been named as the Bloemfontein outfit's toughest player for 2012.

The 26-year-old was selected by the coaches of the Cheetahs (Super Rugby) and Free State Cheetahs (Currie Cup) for the award.

Throughout the Super Rugby and Currie Cup campaigns the coaches named a player after each game who made the team's 'toughest tackle' - as well as a player who they believed was the Most Valuable Player.

Two players received a cash prize every week as a reward for the game they've played.

At the end of the year Brüssow was the player who won the awards most often.

Brüssow received the grand prize of R20 000 for his efforts.
