Jantjies special - Coetzee
Nov 29,2012
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee is relishing the arrival of fly-half Elton Jantjies for next year's Super Rugby campaign.
Coetzee said the 22-year-old Jantjies was a special player, and he believed the youngster would add a new dimension to the team's attack.
"I know what Elton offers and it's our job to make sure that he fits into the rugby scene here in Cape Town," Coetzee said.
"We have to make sure he settles down as soon as possible.
"Elton will start the conditioning programme in mid-December and then he'll get acquainted with our playing systems. He's an exciting prospect in terms of how we want to play next season."
Coetzee said there was no need for drastic personnel changes, since this year's table-topping and South African Conference-winning side had shown there was no need to tinker with their playing style.
"We won't change the way we played because we've won the SA Conference for a second time," Coetzee said.
"We've obviously done things correctly, but we'll change the way we think if we need to. We've tried a few things in the Currie Cup and some of those things we'll take with us into the Super Rugby season.
"The coaching staff will have discussions with the senior players as well, before we finally decide on how we want to play. The senior players' input is vital because we want their buy-in."
Coetzee confirmed that the issue of captaincy would be decided just before the start of the new season, with either Schalk Burger or Jean de Villiers the front-runners.
"It's not important to make a decision at this stage, but we'll make a call next year," he said.
"The fact that De Villiers will continue as Bok captain will not have a bearing on our appointment. I'm happy for Jean because he's done a wonderful job captaining the Boks.
"Also, the absence of Schalk at the start of the season won't influence our thinking. We'll make a choice based on what's best for the team.
"Schalk has been part of our pre-season planning because he's part of the leadership team and will always be there."
Burger, who suffered a long-term knee injury in February, would start full training in mid-January and might be ready for the start of the season.
"He'll be running with a physiotherapist and once he's ready, he'll join the team," said Coetzee.
The coach said the season would get off to a tricky start, with derbies against the Bulls and the Sharks to kick off the season.
"It will be a tough start for us with the Bulls and Sharks first up," said Coetzee.
"But I suppose its tough for all the teams. We'll have the consolation of playing at home for four weeks after that."

Agreed John. Jantjes will get his chance at the Stormers and there is no place to hide at Super 15 level. His decision making and defence will be tested as will all facits of his play. Lets see how he goes. Is he a manufactured palyer as Stransky says? Time wil tell.
He will however be one heck of a player to oust the golden Goose who although only under 21 next year is looking like an all time great in the making. Lambie also is a better player in my view as he has the head for the position and one can see him doing very well.
Ou nuked kiwi is a mixed up oak! Hahhahahahahaha
As for Coetzee he is talking tripe again. Of course you will see the Stormers attacking more - if not he is a complete hatter! We cant score so few tries we need to get our backs functioning. The talent is there and WP showed what can be achieved in respect of attack.
See ya on the ruckers forum!

nukefree mate what your on about ? playing the race card again hey ? you cape flat NZ supporters are the biggest wonder in the world. never ever set foot in NZ but you feel some warped sense entitlement towards a nation that could not be more different from you. your closest you got to NZ is wellington in the paarl your catholic boy lover.
or let me guess its another 1960 broeder bond faction that is trying to steal and cheat the poor NZ boys from beyond the grave ?....
SA teams does play with the limp conservative game plan that will hurt there players development but as they Wp showed that they played a more dynamic brand and the won the CC as the net result so i hope for all the WP supporters sake that they change from the 2012 style with in my view which is as repugnant as anything else i have ever seen on n rugby pitch. they have all the backline talent start using it.

I have to agree with Nuke on that one! It does seem that you have to pull the cat out the bag to get a spot from a player who is out of form! Why did HM go with Morney game after game and leave Janties on the bench when we had no other backup? Then he decided to draft in Goosen who had just returned from injury only to get injured again! Then Lambie got the spot who im glad for but why didnt janties get a real chance? Same with Dejong he Finally got called up to replace boring fat steyn but then oh wait when steyne gets dropped Taute gets drafted straight to play but Dejong stays on the bench! There is definately still an issue there for me. Then when the players get a 15min run everyone wants to see fireworks but wit oz can choke and choke and choke and still get selected! Think about that one boys! Who is scoring the winning tries these days and making the team look good? Dont judge a book by its colour! Though i think this coach need to open his mind and come with a better game plan next year! Select the best team and dont kick the ball away for 60min! We got a great team and talented bunch of players dont waist that and come with poor excuses like WE GOT ALOT OF INJURIES because there are great players that have given their all to keep the jersey now lead them in a smart way with tectnical play! SA rugby need some refreshing! Hoping for the best next year!

Sure Earl Jantjies is a good player but not a great test or S15 player.
You know it does not matter what the selectors do.....they cannot please all.
Even if they selected a black squad to represent the Springboks some folks would still lament the past on how they were short changed.
Get over it guys....select on merit not colour.
We want to see the "BEST NOT THE REST" in Springbok colours.
If you don't like that then go and watch soccer......then you can get all the black you want.

Yup. Jantjies is a talented player alright but south Africa's anaemic supporters would never tolerate a cullert general barking orders, directing play and steeling all the limelight from the great white goose hope. Lol.. Goose is a a doped up fiend, and is being sheparded into a style of skop en jag that negates his natural talents all whilst jantjies is serving tea and carrying bags and dressing beds fro his far less talented senior players. It's bewildering to me how you okes are so enamoured with a player (goose) whose test experience thus far has been nothing short of catastrofic. Jantjies, given carte Blanche and support fro his senior team mates could really make a fist at 10 but the old boys sensibilities won't allow themselves to be directed by a cullert. Lolz. For goose the red carpet was laid out, he was given full support but played no better than jantjies worst performance in extremely trying circumstances. If he were a kiwi he'd be no 1 first five for one our NZ supee franchises and groomed as carters/crudens great understudy. Oh we'll, as long as saru persevere with glass boy NZ has no need to concern themselves with south Africa's über conseravtive and staid tactics. Come to NZ Elton. We'll give you the coaching, confidence and advise you crave, deserve, earned.

Yeah. Go to NZ Elton. They can't seem to breed their own players. If it wasn't for Tonga, Fiji and Samoa the All Blacks would be a nothing team.
