Free State Cheetahs and Springboks prop Coenie Oosthuizen said he will in future only be playing at tighthead for his province.

Oosthuizen rose to prominence as a loosehead but has also worn the number three jersey in recent seasons.

The 23-year-old - who was sidelined for three months after injuring his neck in his Test debut against England earlier this year - said he experiences less pain in his neck when he packs down at tighthead.

Oosthuizen revealed that he will not take any chances at loosehead in the future despite a recent scan clearing him to play.

"From now on I'll only play tighthead for the Cheetahs... it's better for my neck," he told the Volksblad newspaper.

On Saturday he faces promising Western Province loosehead Steven Kitshoff - a challenge he relishes.

"It's only my third game in four months," he said.

"I'm really hungry to start a match and just play. But I'll probably struggle for a full 80 minutes... so we'll have to see."
