Starts for Louw, Van der Merwe

 Sep 12,2012
Written by: Delon Cheketri

Lock Flip van der Merwe replaces the suspended Eben Etzebeth while Bath's Francois Louw comes in for Marcell Coetzee on the openside flank.

There are four more changes on the bench, where Coetzee joins Dean Greyling, Andries Bekker and midfield back Juan de Jongh.

"The New Zealanders are good on the ground which is why we decided to go for a specialist openside flank in Francois," said Meyer.

"Marcell has been very good this season and has played a lot of rugby, but in this match we feel he will be more useful as an impact option."

Jannie du Plessis has been named at tighthead prop despite struggling with a hamstring niggle. Meyer said the Springboks' medical team is working very hard on the injured players and that Du Plessis will be given until Friday to fully shake off his injury, but if he fails to recover in time, Pat Cilliers will start.

"We will not take any chances with injured players and we have time to get him and Pat (Cilliers) match ready," said Meyer.

Greyling will be on the bench to provide prop cover, while Bekker takes over from Van der Merwe in the number 18 shirt. De Jongh comes in for Lwazi Mvovo on the bench.

South Africa: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Bryan Habana, 13 Jean de Villiers (capt), 12 Frans Steyn, 11 Francois Hougaard, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Ruan Pienaar, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Willem Alberts, 6 Francois Louw, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Adriaan Strauss, 1 Tendai Mtawarira.
Replacements: 16 Tiaan Liebenberg, 17 Dean Greyling, 18 Andries Bekker, 19 Marcell Coetzee, 20 Johan Goosen, 21 Juan de Jongh, 22 Pat Lambie.

OMG!

Im sorry to sound pessimistic...

But that selection couldnt have been worse!

Id much rather have an out of form Bekker than Fat Flip in the side.

We have absolutly no flair whatsover in the side apart from Habana!

Ok, i agree that Vermulen needs another start to try prove his worth, but another shit performance from him tomorrow will create so much doubt in the minds of the fans as to whether he can take the step up.

I am already sceptical! He isnt that quick, not that skillful and not the most intellegent player on the paddock!

All he brings is a degree of physicality...

Id much rather see Alberts at 8 and Coetzee at 7

HM    Epic FAIL!!!!!!

It is now clear that Zane and Morne have huge off field abilities to counter their shit on field contribution.

Please advise where Zane was shit? He did his job 100% but he does not bring that x-factor like a Dagg or Beale.

I do not see this Bok team coming close to beating NZ. All Blacks by around 22+

Agreed! Im not a big fan but Zane has stood up and been counted in his last two games! Created a try and scored one! Good kicking and catching! Im sure thats what a good player does! I think if you still dont like him then its personal and that i choose not to get involved with thank you!

I  cannot believe HM, Lambie is a better flyhalf than Morne and a better Fullback than Kirchner so tell me how come Lambie can't get a game yet Morne can play so #*/?! and his position in the side is a guaranteed under HM. There is clearly a bias towards certain players what ever happened to a panel of selectors??? Things are not going to be easier that Carter is not playing Cruden had a great Super 15 and is sometimes even more attacking than Carter! Cruden is better than all our flyhalfs and he is No 2 for the ABs.I don't have much hope for sat ABs to win by 10-15..... Hopefully HM will be sacked after the Championship!!!!

vathom...

WHy should meyer be sacked just beacuse none of our flyhalves are not as good as cruden?

It isnt Meyers fault!

Besides, I disagree with you... Lambo and Goose have the ability to be just as good!

Its a matter of getting opportunities..

And that my friend... is where Meyer sucks ass! He can see that Morne is out of sorts, but he refuses to let him go!

! Flash... I am not suggesting HM should be sacked because our flyhalfs are bad I would like to see him sacked because he has better players at his disposal and refuses to use them. The main reason why I feel he should be fired is that he speaks of a gameplan when there is proof that the boks got a clue and just keep kicking possession away. It takes more energy sapping power to tackle all the time because we are unable to retain possession of the ball! The Boks are going backward under HM, ....That's just my opinion!!!!!

Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to A new reality show called the UP & UNDER hosted by Morne Styen & Zane Kirchner. What a Joke they ARE!!!!

If there was any doubt about favouritizm in this team?? ( please just look at the constant selection of these two players) Would love to know what HM sees in Zane?? Yes we all can see he does just enough to keep he's place in the starting line up He does not have even a small amount of X-facter . Why is it then that no other coach of SA picked Zane??? Why would a coach week in and week out pick a FLY HALF that simply does not have what it takes to pull this team right???

What you will find is if you play for the blue bulls company and close friend to HM your name is penned in no worries??

What the hell kind of message is this coach sending to other players from around south africa rugby clubs??

shocking how some player get chance after chance after chance to prove to HM they are not worth much.

X-factor player as simply removed from the team of placed nicely on the bench with no game time at all!!!

Well we will just have to wait and see what HM does on the home leg ( 10 to 1) he will drop some bulls player and replace them with more bulls players whom will go straight into the starting line up.

There seems to be very dark days ahead for us poor SPRING BOK supports.

Well all we can do now is hope HM gets fired sooner rather than later!!!

HM has set himself up for failer!!!

I think he is linningthe pockets and building the econemy in Pretoria! Only money can be behind this because they play shit! He must be earning off each player! He hasnt got a long term plan he looks like he is trying to earn big and fast like our polititions!

Boys, boys, boys... please look back over your typing/spelling after you're done, some of your posts are almost incomprehensible at times, jeez!!

Re: Heyneke Meyer - c'mon, there's no way you can call for a coach's head after 6 games, grow up! Besides the fact that he's probably contracted for 4 years or until the end of the WC, we've made the mistake of dropping coaches early too many times in the past to shoot ourselves in the foot once again. Yes his selection currently isn't great, but just calm down, put your rational thinking cap on, and realise that with our current injury list any coach would struggle to find effective combinations - he has to try things out, and every coach has his favourites, Morne isn't solely responsible for winning us matches, just like he's also not solely responsible when we lose. Now, if after about 20-25 tests things are still looking the same in terms of game plan, lack of confidence etc. then by all means fire his ass. But what's that I hear you say, it's too close to the World Cup??? So fucking what, as a nation we put waayyy too much emphasis on it, and if the future with Meyer is really as bleak as a lot of you suggest then we wouldn't win it anyway, so we might as well try something different.

So, chill out, sit down with a beer, Klippies & Coke, Scotch or whatever and remember that at least the Proteas aren't doing too badly at the moment...

The Boks are in desperate need of confidence and a refreshed game plan. Unfortunately for HM Injuries and a selection policy that sees him pick his bank players (who are out of form)

has heaped huge amounts of pressure on the whole squad. That is evident from their play.

HM is now a rabbit in the headlights to scared to move left or right. You could argue that Zane and Morne are not shit players but on current form and with the likes of Lambie, Goosen, Frans and Aplon I would say they are 3rd choice in their positions.

We all know it HM should grow a pair and try out other options because the current back line does not work.
