Kings Accept Super Payoff
Jul 15,2012
The Southern Kings have accepted a R40 million offer from the South African Rugby Union (SARU) to delay their entry into the Super Rugby competition until 2016.
The Weekend Argus reports that the Kings accepted the multi-million rand deal because they were unable to lure a sufficient number of big-name players to the franchise for next year.
As part of the agreement, the Kings will play in the Currie Cup Premier Division as from next year with SARU hoping to persuade SANZAR to expand the Super Rugby competition to 16 teams in 2016.
The Lions, who finished the season as wooden-spoonists, will therefore remain in Super Rugby for at least three more years.

Cape Town - The Southern Kings have denied a report that they accepted a R40m offer from the South African Rugby Union (SARU) to postpone their inclusion in Super Rugby to 2016.
The Weekend Argus reported on Sunday that the Kings agreed to delay their Super Rugby entry until 2016 in exchange for R40m and Currie Cup Premier Division status from next year.
But the Kings denied this report and released the following statement on their twitter page: "The story going around we've taken money to stay out of Super Rugby in 2013 is NOT TRUE ! We will be playing Super Rugby in 2013."
This means the Lions - who was the last-placed SA team in Super Rugby this year - are likely to be relegated at the expense of the Eastern Cape franchise for next year's competition.

I'm sorry for you local pe lads who support eastern province,, but I swear I won't even watch their games,,, I won't support them when they play kiwi or Aussie sides as I do with the other as teams at the moment,,, maybe just maybe when the watsons are long gone then u will gain some support until then screw the kings I say.

Justafan, very few would disagree with you. Even the idea that they must automatically qualify next year for the Currie Cup is rubbish. Let them earn the right and no one can complain.
Away with twatson's queens.
See ya on the ruckers forum!!
