Highlanders players Brad Thorn and Patrick Osborne have returned from injury for Friday's game against the Hurricanes.

Thorn has been out since round one with a rib injury but will take his place in the second row alongside Joe Wheeler, while Osborne has recovered from an ankle problem and returns to the left wing.

Phil Burleigh gets his first start of the season, replacing Shaun Treeby at second five, while Ma'afu Fia will make his first starting appearance, coming into the front row in place of Chris King.

Elliot Dixon gets a start in the unfamiliar position of blindside flank, with John Hardie dropping out of the squad entirely.

HIGHLANDERS: Ben Smith (co-captain), Richard Buckman, Malakai Fekitoa, Phil Burleigh, Patrick Osborne, Lima Sopoaga, Nasi Manu (co-captain), Shane Christie, Elliot Dixon, Joe Wheeler, Brad Thorn, Ma'afu Fia, Liam Coltman, Kane Hames. Reserves;Ged Robinson, Matias Diaz, Chris King, Jarrad Hoeata, TJ Ioane, Fumiaki Tanaka, Hayden Parker, Shaun Treeby

Brad Thorne, is he still around!!! They must have dug him up from a cemetery. Times are hard for the Highlanders and New Zealand. At this rate he is going to get a call up in next years world cup

@cloudzter & part time sharkbok,

lolz, luckily the All Blacks arent as stupid/desperate as some nations to put the old players who are past it back in their teams.

thorn is a legend, but i would be pissed if he made it into the All Blacks ever again, that would be like the Boks getting back,,,
fourie du preez
jacques fourie
bakkies botha
gunthro steenkamp
schalks britz
viktor matfield

even though matfiled hasnt been recalled back into he Boks, the joke will have been trully completed once he is.

bawahahahahhaha, and some have the nevre to think the Boks are catching up to the All Blacks.
i guess its an easy mistake to make when ur chasing the All Blacks and all u see in front of u is nothing but dust. so the Boks and thier fans get a pardon for guessing theyre close to the mighty All Blacks, but are the going to be shocked to see were a good 4 light years ahead of them, and theres no way theyre going to catch us in their fred flintstone car, while we pave the way in our starship enterprise, :angel:

 Brad thorn is definitely a legend and if he's got the legs to keep on playing then good on him.  And although I do think his time with the ABS has gone, I'm a believer that age has nothing to do with form, even Matfield is playing well.  And Richie, he will come back with a vengeance like he always does :)
