S15 - Most Missed Tackles - from Ruggastats
April 29, 2012, 09:06:38

Not surprising to see a few of Dave's picks in here - who only seems to notice a player when he's running with the pill

Most Missed Tackles
1. Willem Alberts (Sharks) 26
2. Beauden Barrett (Hurricanes) 25
3. Nick Phipps (Rebels) 24
3. Rob Horne (Waratahs) 24
5. Peter Grant (Stormers) 23
6. JP Pietersen (Sharks) 21
7. Charl Mcleod (Sharks) 20
7. Willie Le Roux (Cheetahs) 20
9. Chris Lowrey (Blues) 19
9. James O'Connor (Rebels) 19
9. Keegan Daniel (Sharks) 19
12. Brett Sheehan (Force) 18
12. Conrad Smith (Hurricanes) 18
12. Daniel Halangahu (Waratahs) 18
12. Marcell Coetzee (Sharks) 18
12. Pierre Spies (Bulls) 18
12. Tim Whitehead (Sharks) 18

18. Benson Stanley (Blues) 16
18. Wynand Olivier (Bulls) 16

Thy are not doing Pietersen any favours by playing him at center - where he has not being a star on defence - the reason being that there is a difference between center defence and wing defence.   Pietersen has not adjusted at all - and that is the end of the story.

I do not see any of Joe Pieterse, De Jongh or Aplon in the most missed tackles grouping - despite their major wieght defixciency.

In the missed tackles category Spies and Olivier are definites - but I am a bit surprised about Whitehead.being included and Morne Steyn not being there.

Yeah lets discard James O'Connor and Conrad Smith should we, both really [removed] rugby players - thanks for those stats, shows what a load of rubbish they are and hardly paint a true picture......not to mention the names of other class acts this season - Daniel, Whitehead, Grant, Spies Le Roux and Coetzee

Only difference is...J O'connor and Conrad have track record at international level in their chosen positions, JP (at centre) and Whitehead don't.  Some people sure love to bury their heads in the sand.

Difference is I would select JP at 13 for the Boks based on the fact that he is a proven test star and doing a good job of 13 for the Sharks........much like the Kiwi's made the call on Umanga and Oz on Mortlock - get it?

And in doing so ignore all the evidence that he can't defend the 13 channel #ignorethestatsandgetburnt

Like I said before, I dont recall JP missing his man once in any game he has played at centre......and by that I mean his opposite number has not beaten him one on one in structured play. If we went with your take on this load of crap, Conrad Smith would not smell the Kiwi side at 13 and O'Connor would not be playing 12 for Oz this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moz you need you specs checked. I have seen JP miss the odd tackle in broken play, but never in one on one structured backline play - the measure of his defensive abilities as a centre.

Would you discard Conrad Smith as a test centre based on those stats????

@Dave

I'll repeat it again because you only seem to selectively choose what to read much like you selectively choose the points you like about a player.....Conrad Smith has a track record of performance at international level - I wouldn't deny that his defence stats aren't great this year - but I know at the top level he's 1 of the 2 best centres in the world.  Don't think you can say the same for JP, actually you probably would Dave.

Nope I'm not saying anything about JP as a test centre, all I am saying is that in my opinion he is our best candidate for the job and would be my choice at 13
