The Rebels replacing O;Connor - Marshall Maybe?
July 18, 2013, 06:10:24
The following from an article in the Canberr Times:-

"A series of high-profile recruiting failures would not deter the Melbourne Rebels from attempting to lure Benji Marshall to the club, chief executive Rob Clarke said on Wednesday.

The Rebels have previously been guilty of rushing to buy the best talent on the market in James O'Connor and Kurtley Beale and announced British party boy Danny Cipriani as their first signing. The marquee signings increased interest but, particularly in the cases of Beale and Cipriani, brought unwelcomed off-field problems while players have said O'Connor, who has had issues within the Wallabies but had publicly kept a clean skin at the Rebels, did not fit team dynamics.

They have all left the club in disputed cir[removed]stances. But Clarke said the Rebels had learnt from their experiences and would ensure that NRL superstar Marshall could fit into the Rebels. Clarke, who described the club's interest as "high-level", said he spoke to the Wests Tigers playmaker's management within the past week, but there had been no connection with the club's recent announcements to not renew the contracts of O'Connor and Beale.

"It's really a matter for the ARU [Australian Rugby Union] at this point," Clarke said. "They're the ones who are taking most of the calls and if and when the ARU [clarifies] their position then we'll look at it more seriously."

IN THE MEANTIME THERE IS NO NEWS ABOUT THE BRUMBIES TEAM FOR SUNDAY.

this bit in the article is what i found most interesting,,,
"while players have said O'Connor, who has had issues within the Wallabies but had publicly kept a clean skin at the Rebels, did not fit team dynamics. "

WTF??? o_O
so bieber does nothing wrong while at the rebels and they dont want him in their team???
that right there is why the rebels wont amount to anything, cos the current administration is an administration full of beenos.

marshall wont sign with the rebels, he knows hes got a chance for AB honours and thats impossible to get at the rebels. marshall knows he needs to adapt quickly and hes not going to do that at a lower tier OZ team, but im hardly surprised another OZ team is looking for another kiwi player.

Sasue

I read elsewhere a statement by Higinbotham about Bieber - and he was the one that said Bieber does not fit into the team dynamics. I think that their may have been factional problems within the team. Beale was a disaster - his off-field conduct was problematic and he and O'Connor were inseparable. Because they let Beale go to ensure he keeps up his alcoholic treatment problem in Sydneyand to be near his family - may be the reason for Bieber not wanting to stay.

Any news about who will be prepared to take Bieber on contract for next year? I think the options are limited and he could be contracted by the Waratahs - with the Force as an outside chance - but they may hesitate because of his past with them.

I agree - Marshall should go to the Blues - that would be his best chance to make the All Blacks team. Does he qualify to play for the Wallabies? I think he may - so that may be an option he would like to consider as well - in view of the fact that he would have a smaller chance to play for the All Blacks than for the Wallabies. .

@mikey,

marshall would qualify for the wallabies as hes been playing league and living in OZ for most of his adult life, he represented australia in league in the under 20 garde and when facing NZ during the haka, he felt sick and knew he would never represent australia again, so i dont think the wallabies is even an option.
as u can imagine with mana like that, hes been one of NZ favourite league sons, prob only loved more in balmain.

re beale
the rebels never let neale go, had beale expressed interest on staying with the rebels, he would have been offered a contract, but the melbourne papers here have doucmented beales manager and the waratahs having many meetings the past few months and have not even had discussions with the rebels.
in the end the rebels were resigned to the fact that beale wouldnt be around next year and wouldnt even offer him a contract out of spite.
to have them them not even offer a contract out of spite is just petty and as unprofessional as it can get and i have serious questions about the rebels mangement.

higgs commenst could be attributed to the fact hes the captain, but for the players to say he was publically clean, that could mean there was stuff behind the doors that only the rebels know.
the close relationship between beale and bieber is one thing, i also remeber that bieber and cooper got into a fight with beale in the wallabies camp, maybe the wallaby issues was to big for the rebels to ignore, but they have lost vuna, kingi, bieber, beale, phibbs, robinson, delve, white and all have been in[removed]bent memebers of the team, so the rebels will be chalening the kings/lions for the wooden spoon next year.
