Whats your Tips this weekend???
July 17, 2013, 08:42:08
Hi all - here's hoping the weekend's rugby isn't tarnished by incompetent or lop sided reffing.

REDs v Cruds - have to say Reds in a tight one going down to the wire...

Brumbies v Cheetahs - Got a feeling the orange guys are going to sneak away with this.

Obviously Im backing against the home teams in both and feel that IF things go this way then both will struggle in the following weeks to go on to the S15 championship - 2013 Reds haven't really blitzed all year with excpetion of Chiefs,Sharks & BILs game - so chances are there due... Genia and Horwill both confirmed starters as is "Return of McCheat" - doesn't play all year and then shows up for the finals... once again the kiwis gaming the system.... whats to stop all the teams loading their rosters up with players for finals.....????? shaking my head...................

Well fancy that Pedsman, the Crusaders being allowed to use one of their squad members. What's the world coming to?

Crusaders to school the Peds and Jacko to help the NZ sides by letting the Cheetahs win, thereby sending the Crusaders to Loftus and setting up an all Kiwi final at Waikato Stadium!

How's that for a conspiracy Pedsman & Logic?

It is apparently all media talk - but I do not think legally McCaw will be able to play in the remainder of Super 15. I think the rule is that the teams must submit squad sheets by 1 April 2013 who will be their squads for the remainder of the period. They can only bring in replacements with permission from Sanzar - and then only to cater for injuries and the injury list of the Crusaders is virtually zero. He may be on their squad list - but I doubt very much if he is. Remember Francois Steyn could not play last year in the play-offs and later games - because the Sharks only signed him up in May 2012.

As to the Brumbies - Cheetahs game I am in two minds about the outcome. The results in games in Round Robin does not give a clear indication as to what will happen. The Brumbies put up a very poor performance last week and if that is repeated then they can have problems. The Cheetahs this year was very good travellers and they beat all the Aussie teams - the Waratahs and Force away from home and the Reads and Rebels very easily at home. However, White would have worked out counter-plans already and he is a wily character - so the game to my mind is up in the air. I would say 55-45 in facour of the Cheetahs - with a small margin win in this case.

In the case of the Reds game I tend to favour the Crusaders at home - but they will have to put up a much better show than they did last week. The problem they have is with their props and forwards. Other than Read and Sam Whitelock - they do not have much to write home about. in the backline Carter is a major factor and Tom Marshall will also be problematic for the Reds. Dagg can be a problem too - but this year he was a yo-yo player - good in some matches and vey average in others. The Crusaders in general is not as good a team as they were in the past and they lacked consistency this year. On the other hand the Reds did not travel well this year and lost key matches in the process. They also do not have the best center combination out - but I like their wings. All in all - a win by the Crusaders is likely.

Are you sure Horwill and Genia will play? I am also interested to know whether Rod Davies will play as well - especially in view of his injury last week..

@redsman,

of course u think kiwis are gaming the system, thats because ur stupid.

in order for a player to be eligble for selection for their spXV franchise in the finals, u only have to be named in the squad before the start of the season.
Richie McCaws name was always there in the crusaders squad, a gamble that blackadder risked on cos there was a very good chance that McCaw wouldnt even play.
i know how much the saffas and aussies fear the greatest rugby player to ever play the game, and given his form the last few seasons, if i was an aussie or saffa i wouldnt want to see him playing anytime soon too, ur fears are very justified.

crusaders by 20.
brumbies by 20.

hope the cheetahs cause an upset though, dont think anyone can beat the chiefs at home during the finals except the crusaders.

Mike, do you think the Crusaders are stupid enough to play St Richie if he's not legal? He was always in the squad from the start!

Not that it matters … the geriatric will probably come off the bench for the last 20 and show himself up as rusty, a meter or three slower than everyone else … but even so, still reckon the Saders will take the Reds easily.

Sasue

McCaw's name was not on the list of either the Test Rugby or Foxsport squads last week - but I noticed that he was added this week - at very inflated prices in my opinion. Even if he is selected I m unlikely to buy him in any event for the first game after coming back. I assume he will be on the bench though - and even in the starting line-up he will not match the recent performances of Todd - so definitely not on my have to buy list for this weekend. I do not like the norm of playing players on reputation - they have to show their real worth on the field of play..

Now something else I hope you are correct in your forecast of the two play-off games - since it would result in the Chiefs playing the Crusaders and the Bulls the Brumbies. I do not think the Chiefs can beat the Crusaders and the Brumbies this year was not all that consistent.

The Bulls problems this year was with their tight 5. Other than Moore the Brumbies tight 5 is not really the strongest around - neither is the Crusaders and Chiefs - so that would level the playing field between the Bulls and potential opponents.

My prediction is that Red is gonna be crying like a little girl again, it will all get too much for him after the reds get a 13+ pumping and QC gets smahed by pretty much everyone.... He'll come here bleating about the ref and how we better watch out because ol mcfatty is gonna get us!

-

You gotta wonder with all his retoric sometimes if his missus really is [removed]olding him out for a kiwi........ and who would blame her!

@mikey,

errrr hope ur not saying that because king richie wasnt on testrugby or the foxsport lists that McCaw isnt legal??? LMAO, :oD

but i wont be buying him either, hes most likely to start on the bench prob for every crusaders match and will need to clear a bit of ring rust, but im sure he will be fine.

a bit of info thats sure to get ur native bros and the aussie militia orgasmaing is last week McCaw played club rugby, his first touch of the ball was a knock on and he huffing and pufffing big time.
he played the whole 80 mins though which was good to see and i cant wait for him to come out and show the world why hes No1.
i can already here the saffas and the aussies crying about the ref as McCaw plays his way onto another IRB player of the year nomination, :oP

McCaw should not be participating in the playoffs. Doesn't matter if he was on some roster or not and I'm not concerned about his potential impact on the game as there is bound to be some rust. He shouldn't be involved because he didn't earn the right this season. While the rest of the team slogged it out in the trenches for 16 games he was at home on his Abmaster. If the Crusaders win it, and they have a very good chance, the Super Rugby title will be listed under his accomplishments and accolades. From what I have read this was Blackadder's call, so nothing against McCaw really except that he could have declined. He is after all taking up a spot that should have been filled by someone who earned the opportunity.

The McCaw pixie dust and legend (which he is) status has blinded the judgment of those involved. In my opinion :)

Agreed, Mcaw should stay the hell away. It sends totally the wrong message to the rest of the team, those lads have done the yards and deserve a crack at finals footy esp when Mcaw is returning from 'holiday' rather then injury. Is it legal?..... What a stupid [removed]ing question. Is it right? No

keep talking you [removed]y cheating kiwis... Reds won 4/4 against your byatches this season INCLUDING the chiefs @ home suscker...

Teams have been named and I think on paper Reds backline not as good as could be but I like the forwards and look forward to replay of 2011 when the Reds OWNED the cruds continuously.

% would say home teams to get through... but got a feeling Qld sport is in for a good week.............................

Wehe! Pedsman is obsessed with everything NZ. Methinks he's got a little stiffy.

As long as the Queerslanders get their comeuppance I'll be happy. Bumbles  have lost their way recently so I'm not convinced of their ability to beat the Cheetahs.

hahaha........ nah not too obsessed with kiwis only in rugby as I think its time Aussies stepped up and regained the bledisloe truth be told if we were on here with Poms discussing Ashes I would be equally if not more hostile as Im a compeitior.... On that note - got the Ashes to watch tonight, origin last nite and Reds on Sat.... so lots to be 'obsessed' with... and if last Ashes test anything to go by will be rivoting watching................

Go Reds by 2 - QC to kick winner on siren like Suncorp when Queen Richie was penalised for incorrect entry by that only true and fair ref Stu [removed]enson....

@oimatey,

now that is a valid point, does he deserve the right to play???

he is obviously a larger then life figure when it comes to rugby, NZers love him and everyone else knows he cant play for the so they despise him (-_o), for that.

but whose spot is McCaw exactly taking???
the in[removed]bent loose trio for the crusaders in 2013 has been 6 george whitelock, 7 matt todd, 8 kerean read and 19 luke whitelock has been the lossie reserve and if u look at the team, all of them are still playing, nird and donnoley ar injured and luke whitelock a flanker/lock hae moved down one as lock cover, this leaves a spot on the bench and the only guys who have plated there in 2013 are jimmy tupou and jordan tafua.
and while both are promising players, McCaw with all his ring rust has got it on spades over them.

so should the crusaders pick a player who has played a handful of games over the greatest rugby player ever??? IMO no, the crusaders have a responsibilty to themselves to pick the strongest team possible and IMO thats exactly what they did.
crusaders took a big risk naming McCaw in thier squad, that was a valuable psoition that could have back fired, but instead they are now reaping the benefits by being able to recruit the most feared player in rugby.

in short nothing wrong with his selection, especially as none of the crusaders usual suspects have missed out on the 22 man team.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh, WHERE'S RED! WHERE ARE YOU BUDDY!!!!. Did you see it! Did you see the wave of rugby perfection that completely destroyed any hopes and dreams of not just the reds but the whole of auuuuustraila! Aussie children will be having nightmares about the big bad kiwis tonight and your missus is probably an even bigger saders fan than she was before!

-

That performance would make Crocodile Dundee put his knife away and just hand over his wallet!

-

That performance would make mad max trade in the falcon and get a hybrid!

-

So what say you red? How did the ref go tonight? Or could you not hear him over bone crunching hit after bone crunching hit the saders were putting in!

-

If I was Horwell tonight I would have dropped the usual after match rhetoric and told Aussie kids straight that that is how you play rugby!
