u25 All Blacks & Boks team,,,
April 25, 2013, 19:09:38

with the RWC around the corner, i was wondering what kind of a team i could build if forced to select players aged 25 years and younger, i was surprised at how easy it was.

All Blacks u25

1 r goodes, 2 m matuu, 3 o franks, 4 b retallick, 5 s whitelock, 6 s luatua, 7 s cane, 8 b shields, 9 t kerr barlow, 10 a cruden, 11 i dagg, 12 f saili, 13 b smith, 14 f halai, 15 c piutau
Bench: 16 r marshall, 17 b taumafuina, 18 d bird, 19 p saili, 20 a smith, 21 t taylor, 22 r fruean

Springboks u25

1 c oosthuizen, 2 k cooper, 3 f malharbe, 4 e ezebeth, 5 s du toit, 6 s kolisi, 7 a botha, 8 m coetzee, 9 f hougaard, 10 j goosen, 11 r rhule, 12 j serfontein, 13 f steyn, 14 jj englebrecht, 15 p lambie
Bench: 16 c visage, 17 s kitshoff, 18 l de jager, 19 l labuschange, 20 c rienach, 21 e janties, 22 j taute

looking at both team here is my take on both teams,,|

NZ

i like the looks of the NZ team, especially the loose forwards where the All Blacks theme of a balanced but pro mobility is kept

the front row looks a little weak, espcially the loosehead and hooker, but both the hookers have very strong but different attribute to offer.

our locks are looking good, but the crusaders dominic bird is really making a name for himslef at the moment & it wont be too long before he becomes one of NZs top 4 locks along with romano, retallick & of course whitelock.

flyhalf and halfback combos are looking good, very smart of hansen to bleed in new players in both halfback and the flyhalf positions which will go a long way towards rebuilding in the future.

the backs as usual looks as threatning as always, but harldy surprising as NZ backs production factory is about as famous as the Boks forwards production factory.

all in all im very happy with the All Blacks immediate future and the road to the 2015 RWC.

Springboks
first thing that pops into my head when i look at the 22 i named, is why the fuck does meyer slect players overseas??? he has absoloutely no need to with the insane wealth of quality depth he has at his finger tips.

with the u25 team, i notice a much msaller looseforward trio then the Boks are normally use to, this would cause huge heartattacks to the manky who believe that size is the be all end all.
i think the looseforwad trio is awesome, all three have a huge workrate and are complimneted by a tight 5 who arent short of muscle.

the halves options is looking just as good, and filled with insane xfactor, which will help a very talented backline spark it up.

the bench looks very solid too, with very good repalcements ready to take over whenever the need arises.

i would be very tempted to swap englebrecht and f steyn around as i believe the sefontein and engleberchtt combo has the potential to be one of the worlds best midfield combos around, but that would be a waste of steyns talents & englebrecht IMO is a proven test quality winger already.

both countries not only have depth in most if not all psotiions, but they have quality depth and wether ur a kiwi or a saffa, u should be stoked with what the future holds.

Sas I like your Bok team but would make a few changes. My U25 side would be:

15. Taute 14. JJ 13. Serfontein 12. Frans 11. Rhule 10. Goosen 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Cooper 3. Coenie 4. Etzebeth 5. Steph du Toit 6. Kolisi 7. Elstadt 8. Botha 16. Reinach 17. Lambie 18. de Allende 19. Malherbe 20. Fourie 21. de Jager 22. Coetzee

I am very reluctant to move JJ to wing as I am all for him at 13, with Serfontein at 12, but one cant leave Frans out the side. It was tough leaving the likes of Visser, Willie le Roux, Mapoe, v/d Heever, Jordaan, Ebersohn, Frans Venter, Jantjies, Groom, v/Zyl, Marcel v/d Merwe, Nkanyane, Herbst, Mellett, Kirsten, Callie Visagie, Willemse, Quinn Roux, Jandre Marais, Bresler, Rhodes, Labascagne and v/d Walt out the side.

I have been saying for ages, we have more depth than I have seen in years. I don't follow your Kiwi's that closely, but you always have quality in depth.

Fuck sake, after looking at the lot of players Saffex mentions I dont see why we should have 1 player over 25 in the Bok team. You give me those players to work with and I wont need any guy over 25. JDV will be missed but we can afford to lose him with those players.

Its almost impossible to select a team based from those players. Backline at least. Lets take 12 for example. Sefontein seems the likely candidate but then I want Ebersohn there too but Frans Steyn (when he recovers form) will want to have something to say about that too and De Allende offers something totally different too.. At 13, Jordaan will be awesome with say Ebersohn or Serfontein inside him but then you want Taute's strength or an in form JJ. At 15, Taute seems the logical bet but Frans Steyn will stake a massive claim and the biggest of all, the awesome Willie Le Roux! On that note, if Lambie misses out on the 10 jersey, he will also make a noise for the 15 jumper. At 9 I think the safe money is on Reinach but Hougaard wont easily role over then you have Groom trying to come over the top of them both. On the wings, we can put whoever misses out on the 15 and 13 jersey and they will not be out of place. JJ, Jordaan, Frans, Taute, Le Roux, Rhule, Mapoe, Visser, Vd Heever can all do a great job for us.

Way too many prospects. Good sign. Now lets hope we have a coach who can see this. My main worry is all these players are good..Really good..None of them are great yet! We need guys to put their hand up and pull away from the rest to set a new bench mark and something for others to chase. ie. We do not want to be debating between 4 or 5 guys for 1 position..We must know that Taute owns the 15 jersey and Jordaan is the man at 13 at Hougaard is the best 9..We cant keep messing around second guessing selections. When I look at those names, I feel like a kid in Sweets from Heaven and my father has only given me R15..So much to choose from that I want it all but I have been restricted to just a couple things. Players need to make themselves the automatic selection.

So far, Serfontein seems to be doing this at 12 but Ebersohn is trying for all he is worth to change that..

Saffex

Why don't you do your homework before making out a case for Steyn.  Sasue is talking about under 25 players - Steyn (borne on 14 March 1987) is 26 years of age.  He is out of contention and your whole argument about him at 12 falls flat.  Which Fourie are you referring to as hooker?   Deon Fourie is 27 years of age.

Rhule is from Ghana and as far as I am aware he still has to go two years before he can apply for SA Citizenship.  He slippd through unnottced in the Under 20 EC - but for Springbok selection it would be much more difficult.   There was not much 9in the papers about the WC Junior squad - so that is probably the reason.  Elstadt is leaving SA to play in France - so it is unlikly that he will be picked for any SA squad in future.

So looking at he squad and bearing in mind the above - I would rather pick the following based on form and ability:-

15   Le Roux.14  Jordaan,  13  De Allende. 12 Serfontein, 11  Mapoe  10  Goosen, 9  Reinach, 8  Botha, 7 Labuschagne, 6 Kolisi,  5 Du Toit, 4 Etzebeth, 3 Malherbe, 2  Cooper, 1 Kitshoff - 16 Ntubeni, 17 Oosthuizen, 18  De Jager, 19 Coetzee, 20 Groom, 21 Lambie, 22  Ebersohn/Engelbrecht

You have your numbering mixed up - the hooker is 16 = the prop 17 = the lock 18  - etc.

I would rather look at present form and some of your selections like for instance Hougaard has hardly played this year.   He was not in form last year and I do think that Reinach is a better all-round scrummie than Hougaard is.  Coenie is not back to his best yet and he only played one game in the starting line-up for the Cheetahs - for the rest he came from the bench.  They may just be careful with him in view of his neck injury.

Saffex

Dunce - do you not know how a clande works either - you know nothing about rugby - so I suppose its p[ar for the course.   STEYN IS 26 YEARS OLD - DUNCE.   Secondly he is overweight and unfit - producing nothing positive in rugby.

I am still waiting for one substantial play made by Steyn during the past year that benefitted either the Springbok team or the Sharks in any substantial manner.   I have seen how many times he destroyed attacking plays - but never saw one he was involved in on a positive basis.

@mikey,
info i have is that frans steyn was born in may??? that would make him 25, but u only have to wait a few weeks before ur argument is flawless, lolz, :oP

good call on oosthuizen, but i found connies perforamnce more noteworthy then both malharbe and kitshoff, and like u said hes spent most of the time coming of the bench.
im not sold on connie at tighthead, i will never forget how badly he got owned by the All Blacks when he came on as a tighthead replacement in the sowetto test, IMO his best position is loosehead, but its unfortunate that his neck injury has a played a role on which side of the scrum he packs down.

@saffex,
i didnt consider ryan elsdat, but i couldnt replace any of the loosies i currently have with him, he would be the first in to any injury the loose forwards or locks might have.

Mike you are currently right about Frans but we all, I trust its all, hope he comes right with a vengence.

Ntubeni at less than 100 kg I believe is a NO NO snapster.

Its brings us back really to the question as to how should we be approaching the next world cup. Essentially who can we add in who will still be  up for the challenge - think of say:

Beast, Bissie, Strauss, Jannie, Chilli Boy, Janse van Rensburg and Cilliers

Bekker, Flip

Vemuelen (Defintely)  Burger (31 then)  Alberts,

Spies, Kan Kan,Brussouw, Louw

Vermaak, Cat, Kings scrummie?

Ludik, Whitehead, Ebersohn

Who can join the youngsters? A sprinkling of experienced players and we wil have a very strong squad that should win it - if we get our coaching and plan half decent.

saSUE you big twit you never produced any evidence of my being SormingED. In fact it would appear that your obsession with Storming ED makes you a likely candidate. Bwahahahahahha

Anyhow nice post saSUE and I trust you realise our boys are a lot better than your feeble outfit.

Wonder how Oz would stack up?

The only conclusion to be drawn is that the future should belong to the Boks provided we get our coaching and selections right. Chugger

Fact is that he has been in SA long enough to qualify for residency and/or a passport, if he does not already have it. Mike, for some reason believe he has only moved to SA in recent years and has in fact jumped down Saffex' throat over it, on another thread. Even telling Saffex to go do his homework. LOL

Yep just another example of DomMike lying......the bloke is pathetic and has no credibility. Ban the liar I say.......we dont need posters lying to make a point.

I am sick of hearing his pathetic ignorant takes on Frans, de Jongh, Jantjies, JJ, Jordaan and co - its tiresome.

Lies and bullshit is all he is about
