Brussow's form
April 10, 2013, 22:38:33

I haven't watched all of the action in NZ/Oz, but I must say Brussow looked nothing like himself against the Stormers. The last serious rugby we saw the little man play was against Oz in the RWCQF....where he was  bested by Pocock until he left injured. Whether he was injured before that game, or is still carrying a niggle now, isn't clear.

But this is nothing like the dominant player we saw in 2009 against the Lions and in the TN.

I see Meyer is getting some stick for leaving him out....which may be fair, but not if the match against the Stormers is the new Brussow....that version of Heinrich was some way from being the best loosie on the park.

He was quiet against the Stormers but has been very good away from home. He has made a few S15 sides of the week while on tour.

He looked back to his best in one or two of his games and its a poor call that Meyer has left him out.

Mozart

I do not rely too much on what you see in rugby matches - you miss out on too much of games played to make a realistic assessment of player performances.

However, Brussow started his return for the Cheetahs in the game against the Highlanders and played for 30 minute only.  His next game was against the Waratahs - where he also came from the bench and played for 30 minutes.   His first selection to be in the  starting line-up was in the game against the Western Force - so the game against the Stormers was only his second full game this season.

Since you have not seen the Australasian games - I must confirm what Saffex said - namely that Brussow did make a good impact in the games he came off the bench and he was good in the Forces game as well.  He definitely did better than Kankowski - who also played mostly from the bench - and is a joke selection by Meyer.

Knee to the head and that is the end of Brussouws game. Yes he who can cheats the best will be the winner in rugby.

Brussouw needs to continue to improve, gain consistency and have some stand-out games and Meyer will look his way. Meyer learnt last year that Boks have to have a loosie that competes well on the ground to slow ball - especially against Aussies and NZ. The inclusion of Louw turned out to be a stroke of good judgment and a turning point in our ability to compete at the breakdown, that along with a flyhalf that was kicking over 80% at goal.

Brussouw is the best we have at that although the emphasis of the rules at the breakdown have changed significantly since he was dominant. With the renewed focus on the tackler rolling away it has removed some of the split seconds where the opposition loosie could get his hands on the ball.

Mozart - my friend

If I base my selection of fantasy teams on your comments - I will be last in the group.  I normally ignore your comments totally and do the opposite from what you say - thus making much better selections than you will ever make. LOL

 Haha - CM, funny stuff.

Moz my man, you know the only way you'll be able to shut him up is to beat him at fantasy - you have missed the opportunity this year but I encourage you to give it a shot next year since it has become a plumbline and barometer for many rugby judgments on this board :)

MEYER won't bother with Brusouw he is too small. That is what kept him out most of the time from playing for SA. He will have to hope for a coach like Pdvivvy who didn't bother much with size who selected guys like Aplon and Brussouw.

And for interest sake Brussouw did not carry a injury in the WoRld Cup game. If you miss the blatant knee by the Aussie lock then I think you were watching the game in Bryce Lawrence mode. And breaking the laws and lives of referees mistakes does not make you having a great game it just makes a incompetent official. Great flankers adapt to referees interpretations of the laws not live of referees mistakes. People seem to confuse the difference between interpretation and blatant mistakes made by a referee.

Prbably SA's biggest hangup... you have to big massively big to play the game...

When was the last time you guys won a TN or something...? Prbly when you had brussow and aplon playing...

on the contrary - F Steyn - big boy but... reallly?

does he do anything other than fall over when tackled and maybe attempt 60m drop goals...

size is helpful... but wits and speed easily as much so and for an open side flanker.... imo brussow is a quality little unit...

"size is helpful... but wits and speed easily as much so..."

you forget, skill......fair to say it's the three things SAFFA rugby overlooks in the interest of size.

Thewre are small palyers who also are not skillful. Skills is not a size thing its a coaching issues beginingwith schoolboy rugby.

Reds wait till we put a decent pack on the park minus show boats like wee matfield 106 kgs and wee brussouw etc. You kangeroos will be hopping to get out the way!

The best 6 we have is LOUW

End of story!

Ou muncher doesnt want to play him because he is overseas based!  Shoot Me

I have a fantasy migraine coming on again. Anvil Drop
