bobby skinstad, zero class and credibilty,,,
March 17, 2013, 14:09:29

from a cheifs point of view this was a very good game with lots of positives, dave rennies boys scored a 4 try bonus point victory while resting a good chunk of their key players.

but there was something i found very very disappointing when watching this match and that was the zero level of impartiality they have when commentating on foul and dangerous play

in the sharks/chiefs game last year when masga ran for the ball and ended up coliding with mvovo, bobby skinhead i mean skinstadt was quick to jump up and down and cry bloody murder making a racial and derogative term about masagas tackle
i know bobby said he wasnt aware of the connotations involved in calling a player of pacific islander descent with his coconut remark (even though hes played plenty of games in NZ and against NZers, i mean I know most of the deroagtive racist insults in SA but ive never been to SA, but thats another thing i guess), so we will just assume he "didnt really" know the implications and just say he was disgusted with masgas tackle.

but when sergeal peterson made a that reckless tackle on messam and ended up stomping on messams ankle. bobby like a true good ol boy passes it of as if it were nothing.
peterson should have been red carded and cited, that stomp on messams ankle hurt messam big time and may have done some serious damage, all because sergal is a puny [removed] who couldnt tackle for [removed].
i admit it was reckless not intentional, peterson just cracked under messams attacking pressure, but so was messams collison with mvov when he was going for the ball.
bobby and his enoturage just casually brushed it aside making jokes about how it was more like a judo throw then anything.

as of now i have completely lost all respect for bobby, never thought much of the other saffa commentators to begin with, all except for hugh bladden who has one of the best rugby commenating voices but more importantly tries to call a game exactly as it is cos hes a true rugby connoisseur.
tony johonson, greg clarke and hugh bladden are the only commenators i know who can consistently call a game for exactly what it is, giving the proper praise to exceptional players no matter where they come from and condemning those who deserve it no matter where they come from.

Bob Skinstad shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a microphone as he is embarrassingly biased. I used to think Jonathan Davies was parochial but the one-eyed Skinstad makes him looks fair and objective.

Count how many times you hear Skinstad slagging off the referee in the most unprofessional way imaginable and then count how many times the ref decisions he's squealing about have gone against the SA teams. You'll find it's a 100% match.

Hugh Bladen is easily the best SA commentator and Gavin Cowley isn't bad. The rest are pretty awful and Skinstad is the worst of those. Thankfully, Victor Matfield's commentary career didn't last more than a few months because Skinsatd had serious competition for worst rugby commentator when Victor was behind the mike!

Can't think of too many Kiwi commentators who are anywhere near as annoying as ours although I do have a chuckle at that Kiwi commentator who's always saying "boomfah". Tony Johnson is excellent and I think Justin Marshall is pretty good too. The Aussie commentators are generally more biased than the Kiwis but to give the likes of "Kearnsy, Clarky and Marto" credit, they do it with a bit of humour and I actually quite enjoy them.

What complete twaddle> bobby is one of the most inoffensive types you can find.

In fact he is so positive and praising of everything that I find him a pain for that reason. I would like him to be more critical in fact.

You two dears are offended too easily. When Bobby does get critical its about time.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Bobby. He is full of praise for our kiwi and aussie friends. Like every commentator, he has "moments" where he gets too passionate about something but he is generally very good. In fact, he, like Justin Marshall, is one of the best "newbies" out there. I say newbie as Bladden and co are old school. They have been good for years!

Aussies are the worst for bias and thats closely followed by the kiwi's bar Marshall who I reckon is very good. Count how many times the other kiwi commentators disagree with Justin and its really funny as it almost turns into an argument in the commentary box with Justin always right. He calls the game as it is and the other kiwi's just cant handle him being too fair or praising anyone South African!

Listen to guys like Bladden, Skinstad and Marshall prior to a try being scored. No matter which team it is, they get just as excited about the break. Then listen to Aussies and kiwi's bar Marshall when their boys make a break vs when SA does. They actually start chanting things like "go now!" and other such phrases. Willing the guys to score. When SA makes a break, you might hear, "oh no, here's trouble!" followed by great excitement if the attack breaks down!

Anyway my kiwi friends. Worry little about the men calling the game from a box that have little impact in the result, worry more about you refs and getting some credibility back there. Sorry that you feel Bobby is biased (albeit for 1 incident) but look on the bright side..At least he has no power to determine the outcome of a game. Its your refs that need attention.

Elgantly put Boklogic but bobby is a bit of a pain. That they should speak of him being biased is cazy.

Best nz commentator by the proverbail mile is marshall who is a genuine oak and tries to be honest. No wonder he clashes with those one eyed mong nz commentators. Hahahahahahhaahhaha

Ou saSUE is perfect material for a nz commentator!

@boklogic,

genuine facts and example are not ur forte, for most ur threads u try to prove ur point with such obscure points like, "Count how many times the other kiwi commentators disagree with Justin and its really funny as it almost turns into an argument in the commentary box with Justin always right."

unlike u bro, i have actually counted justin marshalls comments. during the irish test series last year i picked up on 5 wrong calls from marshall in the first half of the first test.
i thought what a douche bag, he should at least be professional enough to confirm his comments before being corrected every single time on the replay.
this continued in the second half as well, so dueing the many times i actually rewatched the test series, i specifically watched it to count the number of commentary mistakes marshall made and i counted 19 clear wrong calls he made in those three tests.

but this here comment

i am no longer surprised to hear marshall say something and then we wathc the replay only for him to be worng, it hapeens a lot more often then u think, and get ready for me to yawn, if ur only reply to this is another comment based on opinon and NOT fact. feel fre to give me an example of what ur talking about, and i will galdly do the same, as its as simple as me scrolling through archives on a nother forum to find my old posts which have marshalls blunders noted in great detail.

but back to the point of my orignal thread. i dont agree at all about bobby skinstad, a bit like kearnsy hes always ambigoulsy implying that when NZ players are doing something legal, its actually illegal but thats why theyre so good at it. the replay gets shown on camera and then u dont hear one peep from him about the incident ever again. silence is golden, especially when it finally shuts him the [removed] up.

each to their own though, i know he was awesome player, but being an awesome player dosnet make u an awesome commentator and i know how hard it is for u real one eyed fans here to see that.

masaga and coconut tackle and chuckles at petersons foot stomp which hurt his ankle, disgusting.
but like i said bladden is awesome, so is greg clarke & tony johnson, these guys are real rugby purists.

saSUE please stop  all this rtwaddle it only makes you look foolish. Bobby is a politically correct pain and too in offensive.  He is forever always giving some player or other the big write up. You are BARKING up the wrong tree.

South Africa is not blessed with rugby commentators. Let us be honest. Skinstadt is useless, as is Stransky and Capastagnio with Matthew Pearce hot on their heels. Then we have of course in the same league Robbie Kempson and Owen Nkomani and Warren Brosnihan. One of the few who I rate is mostly on the mic next to the pitch. He should be in the commentary box. Gavin Cowley.

Capastagnio is the most useless commentator in the world.

Does he know rugby, or even enjoy rugby. Is just seems like an oppertunity for him to speak crap on a microphone, regardless of where he is.

I wouldnt let Capastagnio to even wash my car, let along comment on a rugby game.
